Did Fitz set a trap for the white house
maybe by letting rove off the hook now it will encourage them, the WHIG, to become complacent and let their guard down concerning the Plame outing. Sometimes in the giddiness of getting by with something illegal a person will say or do something that later they will think I should of known better, why did I do or say that.

3. The White House has essentially gotten away with treason.
The news media will now cheer them on for that.

I can't believe Fitz is going to let them get away with this. He must have something up his sleeve.

7. I think he does, at the news conference when he indicted libby
he said these things, investigations, take time and for us to be patient. In the mean time I'll hold my horses, so to say.

8. Yeah, a big fat vacation maybe..
Calling Fitzgerald a "special counsel" is false advertising. Moreover, a presidential appointee (Fitzgerald) remains in charge, and another presidential appointee (Comey) is overseeing his work. Fitzgerald does have a reputation for being relentless and independent. Still, he does not bring to the post the standing that would be afforded by a high-profile and accomplished attorney with no current ties to the Justice Department. "Jim Comey and Pat Fitzgerald are close friends," says a former US Attorney. "I highly respect them both. But I can't imagine Pat doing something Jim wouldn't want. This is different from having the investigation led by somebody not beholden to the department."

10. i have long thought fitz has been trying to make it LOOK like rove flipped
i have a tough time believing that rove actually flipped, because i'm sure that he knows he'll get a pardon on january 19, 2009. along with a medal, in all likelihood.

but if he can make it look like rove might have flipped, that might be enough to convince some of the lesser players, who can be less certain of a pardon, to spill the beans.

15. Looks like the Aspens
are all standing together.

I don't think they have any other choice. All for one, one for all.

Just means it will take longer, but when they fall they will all fall together.

22. A possibility which might make Cheney ;twitchy' in the extreme.
If he invites Karl to go shooting, Karl may feel the need to ask for protection. To which Fitz may say: 'In exchange for what exactly?'

20. Nope
His job was to investigate a very particular issue and make a determination if and who should be criminally charged. Before any charges would be filed he'd use prosecutorial judgement and establish whether he believed he had case reasonably strong enough to win with.

Fitz is not "one of us". He does not care how shady Karl Rove may be as a political strategist. He is not factoring in all the partisan reasons why Democrats detest Rove. He is not seething over the Iraq War. He is not out to bring someone down at the White House. He is not Ken Starr.

His mandate was narrow. Fitz has investigated, and apparently determined that at this point there simply was not enough evidence available to warrant charges against Rove in regards to the Plame issue.

That doesn't mean Rove isn't guilty, just that Fitz couldn't prove it.

It also doesn't mean that Rove isn't guilty of potentially lots of other crimes, but things unrelated to the Plame outing were not Fitzgeralds mandate.

Unless something explosive comes out in the Libby trial, Rove is gonna skate on this.
