Fried Green Tomatoes smothered with Shrimp and Remoulade Sauce
or Creole Tomato stuffed with Shrimp or Veggie Lasagna featuring Creole Tomato and topped with parmesan and Italian dressing. Those were my favorite three choices at the New Orleans Tomato Festival this past weekend so I had them all. My wife had a Bloody Mary (made with Creole Tomatoes, go figure.) And I just had to drink some ice cold Bud. There was much more on the menu and you were missed.

4. Hi Smokey and Welcome to DU
Is there still a Navy presence in Bayonne? I did some temporary additional duty there along, long time ago.

8. Thanks for the welcome BOSSHOG..........
MOTBY was axed in the late 1990's. A lot of residents lost their jobs. Now there's a big debate over what to do with the land. There's been significant development of the waterfront and housing costs have skyrocketed. It's sad, Bayonne used to be a safe, relatively cheap place to live. My husband and I are comfortably middle class and we can't afford to buy a house here.

15. Sad to hear that

I was stationed in Philly in the 80's and it was a booming base back then. A big navy base with a helluva history and now I guess its just rotting.

3. Fried Green Tomatoes
To this day, I would rather have fried green tomatoes with soup beans and corn bread than surf and turf!!!

5. They were outstanding
prepared by Bywater BBQ, a nice little restaurant in the Faobourg Marigny, a little neighborhood right next to the quarter. The menu featuring almost all tomato dishes was incredible. There were other restaurants offering fried green tomatoes but I just had the one so I could pig out on other stuff.

6. Laissez les bons temps rouler!"
I'm salivating!

I'd have to stop by Cafe du Monde after that for some beignets and chicory coffee... oh dear...

10. My wife had such a good time
that she wants to go back to the quarter next weekend. She said she forgot to pick up some stuff at the Farmer's Market. Works for me. Cafe Du Monde has about three locations in the quarter now. And there was no line about 1:00 PM Saturday. The next time we go back we are going to Fiorella's on Decatur to pig out on their "World Famous" Fried Chicken.

17. I'm so jealous!
The closest thing to that fried chicken in Los Angeles, is at Mrs. Knott's Restaurant, which was part of the original Berry Farm.

It will be a while before I can afford to travel again... thanks to the Butt-Crack in Chief... until then, I periodically buy goodies from the Cafe Du Monde website...

Sorry. I was just kidding. Maybe we should only be able to eat English food now too (yuk).

Been lurking here for years and I never can resist reading one of your food and/or party posts, even though I know it's going to make me start salivating uncontrollably and longing for my favorite city in the country!

The next event is SATCHMOFEST the first weekend of August. Its a tribute to Louis Armstrong, but you can find something going on every weekend.

14. Ohhhh would LOVE to...
We used to visit your lovely city every year--even in the smothering heat of July--till MorningGlow Junior came along. Been prevented from traveling for a few years, but I guarantee he's going to learn to love eatin' them mudbugs before he gets too much older!
