Coulter joke by Leno:
"Well... I have to say, I'm siding with Hillary Clinton on this one... I liked Ann Coulter a lot better back when she stuck to fighting Sigourney Weaver in those Alien movies"

haha!

24. The image that came to my mind too...
 Also the one of Natasha Hendridge as the "Alien Mom mutant" from the movie "Species"...(Although Natasha Hendridge is much more attractive, even in her mutant form than Coulter will ever be).

8. Official DU Policy: only Letterman is funny. Leno never is.
Sorry. Several years of bitter Lounge disputes have left a bad taste in my mouth.

Leno's a funny guy with usually-funny writers, who just happen to make fun of our side on occasion. That's what good comedians do: make fun of people.

Letterman has been funny approximately four times in his entire career; he sucks.

12. Yeah, politically, I like Dave; but Leno always makes me laugh more
I enjoy watching some times as a barometer of the "mainstream".

18. Back, Satan! Back to the Lounge where you belong!
Letterman sucks.

"Hey, did you here the one about the fisherman who ate a Swede? He he he." Seriously, when was the last time Letterman was truly funny? Back in '87 when he was hosting the late show and we were all too stoned to care?

20. Letterman's old show on NBC was some of the best TV I've ever seen.
I was too young for Ernie Kovacs's TV show, but Dave's NBC show was as close as I'll ever get to a truly revolutionary, unpredictable use of the medium.

You're right about one thing: Dave has been largely unfunny since his move to CBS; an uncritical audience will do that to a performer (I remember nights when Dave would BOMB back on NBC. Those were some incredible shows - the tension was palpable, and you never really knew what would happen.) When Dave used to have Charles Grodin or Andy Kaufman or Crispin Glover or Harvey Pekar on his show, actual sparks would fly.

Leno, however, is a safe performer. You always know what he'll say next, and you know his show will always be predictable and boring as watching fish sleep. Bill Hicks pegged him perfectly on his "Rant in E-Minor" album.

Oh, and you're wrong about one thing: The Lounge is NOT where I belong. I belong wherever the fuck I want to go, thank you very much.

23. I was joking about the Lounge thing, RKZ
God knows I've spent enough time in the Lounge myself. Enough time, in fact, to recognize names like "RandomKoolZip." And it ain't like GD is the classiest place on the Internet(s) anyway. I was joking. Chill.

And since it's 5:30 in the morning and I can't sleep, I'll say this about Dave's NBC days: they were daring. Not especially funny, but at least he had some originality. Maybe after 25 years of him, I don't find him as original anymore -- a victim of his own success.

Leno's not great, either. I agree: he's safe, he's predictable, he's the epitome of network banality. Often clever, rarely brilliant.

"Rant in E-Minor" was pure genius. Leno and Letterman wish they could be that good. I think Bill Hicks was more upset with Leno being a sell-out that being bland, though he was certainly upset at that, too.

"Bullshit! You'd fucking spread your legs so fast you'd break your pelvis to let that mongoloid bastard shoot his little cracker sperm in your pussy! See? I told you there were dick jokes coming later!"
