Dubya parses words in his description of "as soon as possible".

-----From today's snarky little petulant response to a reporter's question about when the war might be over and the men and women can come home:

Q Just about --

PRESIDENT BUSH: -- and I understand that; it's a legitimate question. It's like, when are you going to withdraw troops? And the answer is, when conditions on the ground --

Q I didn't ask that.

PRESIDENT BUSH: No, I know, but I -- you asked the question, I answer them. The answer is, as to when we'll be able to stand up Iraqis and stand down, when we'll be able to analyze the situation, depends upon how these people react, how they react to pressure, how they react to forming their government. This is a brand-new democracy. And the problem with the war we have is it requires a certain degree of patience in order to succeed. And we have to be patient here as this new democracy begins to flourish, and has to deal with people like Zarqawi, who is trying to stop their advance.

And so, as soon as possible. I've told the American people I'd like to get our troops out as soon as possible. But the definition of "as soon as possible" is depending upon victory in Iraq. And victory in Iraq is a country that can sustain itself, govern itself and defend itself. That's the definition of victory, and we're making progress toward that goal.

-----------

"But the definition of "as soon as possible" is depending upon victory in Iraq.", sounds suspiciously like the old Clinton quote about what "is" is. Which they always use as his famous example of twisting words to escape lies. They rode his ass for years with this "is is" crap, now Bush parses words and of course gets a pass.

2. "pulls a Clinton"? Are we now using freeper made BS?
Do describe the manufacturers of the reality? I don't think so. What an offensive header!

''We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And
while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll
act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and
that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you,
all of you, will be left to just study what we do.''
Bush aide to Ron Suskind

3. You callin' me a freeper?
I don't think you are supposed to. But I'm just showing his word twisting from today, something they rode Bill about all the time.

Alert me if I've offended thee.

9. Nope. Just saying you use their memes - most likely unconsciously.
You should check the origin of your expressions and see if that still holds in the era of manufactured reality.
The whole "slick Willie" BS is falling apart - people realize Clinton was more honest than W. Maybe it's time for you too to contemplate that basic fact before you hurl more uncalled for insults on Clinton.

4. I find "Pull a Clinton" a lousy turn of phrase for a Democratic party site
He was insulted enough while he was in office.

When it came to policy, he was a lot more honest than W and at least as honest as most politicians.

6. A politician should NEVER give grammar lectures
Clinton did make a tactical error when he he said, "it depends on what the meaning of is is." His point was valid, but don't give the voters a lesson in diction. It sounds like you're "parsing" (i.e. read "lying").

8. I watched him say it, & he really was angry, he said it twice.
Then he tried to make the stupid reporter understand his stupid answer. It was pathetic.

14. Just a grammarian's FYI: Clinton was on-point with his "is-is" locution.
IIRC, he was asked if he "is" having an affair (or words to that effect) with ML. Bill knew the interrogator meant "Did you ever have....", but he responded AS ASKED. The question and its answer did, indeed, depend upon the meaning (i.e., the intended verb tense) of "is".

15. the quote
Here is Clinton's rationalization to the grand jury about why he wasn't lying when he said to his top aides that with respect to Monica Lewinsky, "there's nothing going on between us." (according to footnote 1,128 in Starr's report):

"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the--if he--if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement....Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true."
