Comparing Ann Coulter to Michael Moore. This has got to stop...

I've seen this a lot the past couple of days.

"She's like a right-wing Michael Moore."

I haven't seen it here on DU, but I saw plenty of people on TEE VEE yesterday, some of them our fellow "democrats", saying this as if it were just common knowledge.

Let's get one thing straight. This is NOT a fair comparison, and to me it shows that some of these "liberal" pundits aren't on our side.

Michael Moore made a movie telling America not to re-elect Bush because he is a horrible president, and lied us into an illegal war.

Ann Coulter says she regrets McVeigh didn't bomb the NY Times building, 9/11 families are "enjoying their husband's deaths", We should nuke muslim countries and convert the survivors to christianity, and that it would be better if MORE journalists were getting killed in Iraq.

When has Moore EVER said anything as hate-filled as the shit Coulter spews everytime her mouth opens? Michael Moore told us all not to trust Bush, and to demand accountability from our government. He never called the conservative movement a bunch of filthy traitors that hate america (although in hindsight, maybe he should have).

And Coulter argues for a fascist state.

I'm getting tired of the Begala's of our party equating Moore with Coulter just to make themselves seem sane.

No, Moore and Coulter are as different as two people can possibly get. One is a documentary filmmaker who allows his subjects to tell much of their own story. The other is a vicious harpy who spews hatred at half the people in her country and wishes them all dead.

3. Another big difference

Although Michael Moore has fangs too, he generally resrves them for institutions and people who abuse their positions in those institutions.

He doesn't generlly go after "conservatives" as a group, or try to demonize those who have differing political views than he does. Rather he goes after those leaders and institutions that use and abuse ordinary people -- politicians, corporate executives and people like that.

His basic purpose is to protect the interests of average people, regrdless of whether they might happen to be liberal or conservative or apolitical.

He does not go around spouting hate filled things like "consrvatives are all jackasses and I wish the Twin Towers had been filled with nothing but conservatives" or accusing conservatives of being anti-religious or immoral strictly because of their political beliefs.

I'm also getting tired of people that say we should ignore Coulter and make her go away. It ain't gonna happen.

To the contrary we should focus on her. She is to right wing punditry what Fred Phelps is to preaching. We should make her the most talked about right wing pundit there is. Force the rest of the right to defend her and get in line behind her. I sense that her fall from grace will not be pretty and from the looks of her, it's not far off. Let her drag (no pun intended) the rest of them down when she goes.

11. moore's movies are not a steady stream of invective; unlike Coulter.

Though they hit harder in my opinion, because they let the actions of the targets speak for themselves, and the truth hurts. Coulter's insults have the staying power of the angry rants of a bag lady at passers by.

Michael Moore makes artful, but accurate, documentaries, and is consistently on the side of the little guy, the underdog.

Ann Coulter writes slipshod "hit pieces," calls for the murder of anyone she doesn't like, lies and plagiarizes, and is coinsistently on the side of the moneyed and powerful.
