Creole Tomato Festival
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 12:11 PM by BOSSHOG
The Big Event in the French Market in New Orleans tomorrow (right on the cusp of the French Quarter. Cooking demonstrations (featuring tomatoes from the finest restaurants in the city; food booths offering local cuisine; Gospel, Jazz and Latin Music, and lots of locally harvested produce for sale. Not to mention the steady flow of booze.

Coming up: Satchmo Fest (its all about Louis Armstrong) the first weekend of August at the Old Mint near the Quarter.

Come on Down

1. You call THAT a Tomato Festival?
Now THIS is a Tomato Festival!

(La Tomatina Valencia Tomato Festival)

Though I'll admit -- the Creole Tomato Festival probably has better food...and is a lot less messy.

3. And no doubt
when the sun goes down, the tits come out on Bourbon Street. The parading of the royal tomatoes.

5. In Milan, Ohio they have the "Melon Festival"...talk about possibilities..
It's a shame Milan is a conservative rural town.

I still think crowning a "Melon Queen" is funny, however.

7. New Orleans is a very conservative town
Locals usually don't start drinking heavily until after eight in the morning. A "Melon Queen" in New Orleans?? Extremely possible. The Big Easy has all kinds of Queens.

10. 8:00am? Pansies...
I've gotta admit, though...New Orleans' "Melon Queen" would probably be a whole lot more interesting that Milan's.

2. I'll have to...
take a break from rebuilding the house to make an appearance and get some lunch. I love that festival! Glad to see they are still having it.

4. We missed it last year
because we went to the Blueberry Festival in Poplarville. They are both always on the same day. From now on any New Orleans event will take precedence over anything.

The new twin span to Slidell starts being built next month. Three lanes both directions, 30 feet above the water. Should be completed in three years.

11. I was there for that festival one year.
It was a WHOLE lot of fun. We ate WAY too much, drank a lot of Dixie in a bar on Decatur, and danced to Zydeco until I blew out my ankle...

I LOVE your town, and you guys KNOW how to have fun better than anyplace else I have ever seen. I'll never waste my time going to Las Vegas (went there a year ago and I thought it was way over rated because those folks simply lack joy.) To party, I'll ALWAYS come to NOLA!!!

Have fun and enjoy!

13. We've been living
near New Orleans for 17 years and the town and the fun never, ever get old. My wife is talking about wanting to move closer to her mother (in Kansas) which would be fine by me. But I told her I get at least two trips a year to New Orleans and she said she wouldn't have it any other way. I was in Las Vegas (once.) Give me the Big Easy any weekend of the year. Decatur is a street full of fun.

14. If you can get it...
Try the heirloom tomato appetizer at August. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it's one of the most memorable dishes I have ever eaten. That guy, John, the owner and chef, is a freakin' genius and a great guy.
