Global Warming in Ohio?
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 11:40 AM by ck4829
I live in the Central Ohio area.

I've been noticing some changes to the weather.

I last remember being little kid when we had days when the temperature went over 100 degrees, it's now officially a scorcher when it gets past 90.

Our winters are also getting warmer. I've been expecting this to be a bad winter. So far, there hasn't been a nasty blizzard, like there is every year, snow can't even stay on the ground anymore.

I thought about it, our winters getting warmer don't seem like a bad thing at first, but I do know that it'll have nasty consequences for the ecosystem further down the road.

I have a hunch that what we are seeing is Global Warming, the thing that makes RW'ers stick their fingers in their ears and say "Nah nah nah nah. I can't hear you. Global Warming doesn't exist."

How about you? Maybe we can map this out. How is your climate doing?

1. Similar here, it has been a warm winter so far
the last few winters have definitely been warmer on average than in the previous experience of those who have been around here a while?

Where I'd like to ask the question is down in Texas and Oklahoma where drought is raging and so are the fires, and Senator Inhofe is on record as saying that global warming is the biggest hoax of all time . . .

2. In Japan they got 13 feet of snow
And parts of India are experiencing the lowest temperatures in 80 years. I don't really know what to make of that.

3. There might be some adverse effects of what they mean by Global Warming
Earth's ecosystem is very complex, it may be called Global Warming, but it could have other strange effects too.

Like I said in the OP, our Summers are getting cooler. I don't know what to make of it, except I believe that it may be man-made.

7. It's ironic that GW could actually make things colder
There have been theories since the 80's, for example, of the Gulf Stream changing its course, and turning northern Europe into Siberia in the process.

4. It was 59 degrees yesterday in my part of eastern Ohio
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 11:50 AM by ohio_liberal
It's been a very mild winter. We only got significant snowfall (over 3 inches) once so far. This has been going on for about 3 years or so. I predict spring will be hell with all the rain, flooding, and mudslides here.

The summers have been very mild as well. It's unusual now to see temps in the 90's.

5. is it winter?
I'm in NY and its 59 degrees right now. When I was a kid in the seventies winter in NY meant Jan and Feb were snowy and 10 degrees. I'm saving money on oil but its very scary.

6. Ohio winter is back (in Dayton area, at least)
It was in the 50's for awhile. I thought I was back in Oregon. A little snow last night. In the low-30's/high-20's today. Still pretty mild, but we did get DUMPED on in late November.
