Why were Diebold machines used in CA-50?
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 10:47 AM by Rebel_with_a_cause
My brother votes in that district, and here's what he said:

***************

I voted absentee and drove (my wife) down to the voting booth. I was disappointed to see Diebold voting machines there. I have never seen so much republican activity to win this election. I received recorded phone calls from George and Laura Bush, Dick Cheney and John McCain twice. McCain was scheduled to visit San Diego to support Bilbray but heard that Bilbray was criticizing his border proposal so he decided to cancel the trip. The commercials about Busby being a supporter of pedophiles in elementary schools was particularly disturbing and the mailers implying that she would sacrifice our children to the devil were equally bad. If Busby doesn’t win I will be sorely disappointed but not surprised. How can you lose with Diebold counting the votes?

**************

And so it goes, once again. Either take those fucking machines out, or it's status quo in November.

1. She didn't lose because of diebold
she lost because it's a heavily Republican district.

4. How do you know? Do you have proof of that? A paper receipt, perhaps?
She lost by 5%? How do you know it wasn't programmed into the machine to let her lose by only 5% of the votes. See, the PROBLEM IS....THERE'S NO WAY OF KNOWING WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED BECAUSE NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO LOOK AT THE 'PROPRIETARY" SOFTWARE. Saying what you said, ignoring the facts, ignoring the evidence of past stolen elections, is frightening to me. There's absolutely NO WAY TO KNOW what went down...with absolute certainty.

8. W/all the automated phone calls made to get out the vote,
it's difficult to believe there would be much apathy, especially in light of the blackmark Cunningham had left on the district for all the world to see. That should be a blemish the voters might be interested in erasing. The entire country was fixated on that district. Voting in another politician on the take is difficult to comprehend.

If I were in that county, I'd be voting absentee. Have those ballots been counted?

2. We had, on the ground, Democratic Party observers who verified...
the reports of low voter turnout. Apathy seems to be the problem here.

5. Why in the world would a diebold machine be
allowed even near an election with suspicions about tampering with these machines being discussed. The Dems (including me) are just sitting on their rears waiting for something to save them. It has been demonstrated that neither house, either will not or won't do one thing to stop this administration. Let's not spin the california election and think the 4 percentage points loss is good. It is difficult to believe that anyone would vote for this repug to take Cunningham's seat. Why won't Dems swiftboat their opponents??? Heavens, there definitely is plenty of ammunition. If we don't learn how to run an election, IMO GWB could run again, and win.

10. thank you.
I cannot comprehend why a single Diebold machine should have crossed CA's borders. Let's focus on that border crossing, rather than that of the Mexicans.

So, Bilby gets that position until 2008's election?

13. Don't think they have done a poll on that.
I think the only other CA poll was Westly-Angelides, which was pretty accurate.
