Keith Olbermann on Ann Coulter: "An Evil, Bad Person"
Unfortunately for Countdown fans, Keith Olbermann is taking tonight off to watch the Yankees-Red Sox game. But in his absence, I transcribed some interesting comments he happened to make on Dan Patrick's ESPN Radio show today.

Dan had mentioned that he had just gone golfing recently with some of the NBC people, and that he had seen Matt Lauer. Here's what happened next...

DAN: ...he did a great interview with Ann Coulter on the Today Show. And she's...What is her deal?

KEITH: She--Let's put it this way, I don't know a lawyer who would take her side in an insanity case.

DAN: But--did you hear what she said today?

KEITH: Yeah, yeah, about the 9/11 widows--

DAN: The thing--the vic--yes! The widows!

KEITH: Yeah, about the widows enjoying their husbands' deaths.

DAN: Yeah!

KEITH: Ann has--seriously, I think it would be difficult to--

DAN: Well, give the exact quote, just so people--

KEITH: I don't have it in front of me.

DAN: But it was along--OK, OK, go ahead.

KEITH: I just think Ann could not successfully defend herself, you know, could not successfully pass a sanity test or a sanity hearing. She's just nuts, and, and nothing matters to her. There's nothing--there's nothing personal, there's nothing emotional. There is no limit. There's nothing sacred to her. It has nothing--you know, it's nothing to do with liberal, conservative. She's just a bad person, and I mean an evil, bad person, Dan.

DAN: But to characterize--

KEITH: And, I think she used to be a man. I'm just, I'm just saying. I'm not sure. If that makes me a bad person, I think she used to be a man. I'm not sure. And she's probably upset about that. Talk about losing something important to you!

DAN (stifling snicker): But what did she say--the widows?

KEITH: That they were all millionaires, and enjoyed the "griefarazzi" and the attention, and no one had ever enjoyed losing their husbands more. Which is just a sick, mental thing to say. I mean, you need 'round-the-clock therapy if you can actually say something like that about anybody. I couldn't--I couldn't say something like that about Bill O'Reilly! Seriously!

We do it here all the time - why shouldn't we expect the pundits to do it BACK to the Republicans after they've done it to liberals for 12 years now?

Look, there's no time for civility when we're near Civil War.

But there are so many ways to do it without sacrificing pride. I mean, she is GIVING AWAY HER BOOK FOR FIVE DOLLARS for fucksakes. There's so much one could do with that fact, who needs to haul out the whole "she looks mannish" thing.

Don't get me wrong--Annthrax needs to be thrashed, and on the whole I love what KO (whatta great pair of initials, huh?) did. I was mostly just nitpicking.

55. I think he is caught by the lack of womanliness her remarks
represent. I think he's of the school where women don't speak like that about other women, at least not like this. There is no womanly empathy for the situation, even if you hated the person, you empathize for the situation. Its rather as if some bullheaded man was spewing off about this, rather than a woman. I think he can't believe she's a real woman like this.

41. She was born intersexual.
She had a birth defect called ambiguous genitalia and was surgically assigned a female sex as an infant.

So she never was a man. She is not a transexual. She is a woman, and has been since she was around 9 months old. I think all this "Ann The Man" stuff is demeaning to transsexuals and intersexuals and needs to end. She cannot help being what she is, and I think a lot of her anger is rooted in it.

56. I took a class with a teacher who wrote a book on intersex people...
While Ann Coulter was never mentioned, what I do know is that there are far more people who are intersex than what most people realize. It is rarely talked about but there are actually millions of people who are neither men or women, but rather fall somewhere in between. My guess is that Ann Coulter is part male but has never been fully male.

I agree that we should lay off her for her sexual characteristics, and focus on the horrible things she says instead.

Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 02:54 PM by CottonBear
If she is intersexed (if what benburch says is true), then there is nothing wrong with that. What's wrong is when the parents OK surgery on the children as infants. These children have no choice in the matter and it causes them great mental anguish as adults.

I don't care if Ann is male, female or intersexed.

I do care that she is a freaking nutcase who obviously has some real issues. She owes the 9-11 widows an apology.

It doesn't matter if Ann is a she, a he, transgender, intersexed or even a mutant alien...Ann Coulater is a friggin nutcase lunatic and definitely owes the 9-11 widows (and every family who lost someone on 9-11) an apology.

And meanwhile, the MSM should avoid her like the plague- she should be seen no different than the head of some Neo-Nazi Hate Group like Matthew Hale and not be allowed to use up airtime to spew her hatred across our country.

18. Thanks and Yes, I Do
I'm a little tired of progressives having to watch every word they say, while the media swallows whole whatever propaganda, lies, BS, & talking point/sound bites the neocons dish out.

Perfect example is how we're always "Oh, yes we do support the troops," defending our patriotism against what? Have we lied our country into war, cut VA funding, given over control of feeding, housing, and securing our bases overseas to independent contractors who serve up SEWAGE? Have we given out key contracts for armored vests and armored vehicles to our buddies who can't get it done? Show me what we've done that does not support our troops--trying to stop their lives from being squandered by madmen?

Our enemies--the enemies of democracy, and of the constitution--are outrageous; and I think it is high time we let 'em have it. We've been so busy being controlled "not like them" that they have been walking all over us on every talking heads "news" program.

Yeah, I think it's time to let loose on these guys, and that goes for our Democratic Representatives. I'm outraged, why aren't they?

Have you ever noticed that, even with the worst right wing idiots, like say, Ann Coulter, interviewers seem to back down from asking the hard questions, or challenging their stupidity? It's almost as if they feel too embarrassed to mention how obviously stupid their thinking is.

Then they beat the crap out of the Democrats/Progressives. Also, see post 18 above.

That's what I wanted Matt Lauer to ask her, after she'd exhausted herself and was sitting there all dripping wet, her hair stringy with sweat, panting heavily. I figure the question would have totally overloaded her, and she would have snapped right there in the window of 30 Rock, stripping off her and Matt's clothes, and they would have ended the segment rolling on the floor like weasels in heat, while the video faded to black and the voice of Al Roker came on and said, "...and now let's see what's happening in your neck of the woods..."

(And now you know why I'm not allowed to produce live television. :-) )

25. Ann is mentally ill.
I dislike O'Reilly, Rush and Hannity, but they are not insane. They are pushing a point of view that they somewhat believe in (the first two-Hannity is a true believer in conservatism)for a profit and are probably cynical enough at heart to realize it.

But Ann is nuts. It's not her being a conservative that makes her crazy and differentiates her from the rest. It's the nasty tone of her very presentation and prose that makes her different. She could have made a point about democrats using victims to make points that no one feels right about challenging, but she had to use such mean and vicious language about the 9-11 widows that her point gets lost.

On top of that, when I see her on tv, she acts, speaks and has mannerisms of one who is suffering delusions of superiority. Her every gesture and move is over-exagerrated, her eyes bug out when she speaks and she never expresses anything but nastiness. I don't hear her ever saying anything nice to or about anyone, except Hannity and the dead Joe McCarthy. She claims to be a christian, but has absolutely no humility or kindness in her, which are prime christian values.

Either there is another Ann off camera and what we see is a persona she created to make a living, or she is a seriously deranged individual.

I will never forget it. I think it was the very first episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher." Coulter was on the panel. Bill apparently took a phone call from an impassioned black man. Then, after a few phrases, said black man walked on the set. It was Chris Rock.

He walked behind the panelists, faced Coulter, and said, "Are you f***in' the President?"

And she didn't get angry. She...SMILED.

In the immortal words of Stan Lee, "'Nuff said."

"you know, it's nothing to do with liberal, conservative. She's just a bad person, and I mean an evil, bad person, Dan."

I agree that it's not about her personal values. I wouldn't bet two cents that Ann-thrax is really as fixed on the right (and definitely not as knowledgeable about conservativism) as she claims to be. Not that I think she's a lefty. I think her focus is on one thing and one thing only - raking in the big bucks that spewing venom brings her. She'd babble any ideology that paid the mortgage on that Florida mansion.

I don't think she does it just because she's evil. Oh, yes, she is truly evil, but I don't think that's her motivation. I think it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

That's exactly why she says things like this. Because every time she does, she gets a MOUNTAIN of free publicity and that translates into speaking engagements, book deals, etc.

An asshole who's willing to say anything can do well posing as a rightwing babbler because the right is willing to make haters rich. There are some nutjobs on the left, but we aren't willing to pay them big bucks to be that way, so there's no point in the Coulters or Limbaughs doing what they do with a leftist slant.

57. I think he should retire her number & make it a unique honor.
He can start a "WPITW" Hall of Infamy--she can be the first "Immortal".

(As long as she avoids sulight, crosses, and anything silver.)
