3. If the republicans can't get 50 votes, then there would be no reason
for us to filibuster because the nominee would be voted down on a straight vote.

5. I don't know whether I should laugh or cry
The Pink TuTu Democrats keep saying "we're not going to fight back on this issue, we're going to save ourselves for that 'big' fight later on'.

In other words they never fight back on anything...!!!

8. for someone technically unqualified rather than ideologically repugnant
I don't want Alito on the court.

But then again, I don't want any bush nominee on the court. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. We don't have control over the white house, we don't have control over the senate, O'Conner is retiring. bush is going to fill the seat (that's the way that it works) and it is going to be with a conservative.

I think many of the democratic senators think that whoever fills the seat is going to be ideologically repugnant and at least Alito is nominally qualified (unlike, say, Clarence Thomas or Harriet Myers). So, they'll vote against him and move on.

9. We have Dems who arent waiting. They are READY to fillibuster
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 01:03 AM by shance
but they need us, and they need the other so called "Democrats" to step up to the plate and to the pressure.

We have great Democrats, but they need our unprecedented support, protection and promotion so we can show America that we are truly the majority which we are.

We cannot continue to allow the abuse, harm and assaults inflicted by Neocons on those of us who represent America. It happened to the Kennedys, the Kings, and others and it has to stop. Their abuse must be named and stopped. It hurts us all. It has hurt us all and we need to stop the abuse. We must stop the abuse on our good leaders and our nation.

We are all Republicans and Democrats and Independents who don't call money our God. We know the value of each other, of our families, our relationships with others, we know the value of the environment around us, and we know the value of critical thinking and using our brain versus having someone else telling us what is good for us.

That is true Democracy. Not something carelessly used in speeches in order for us to occupy other countries for our own gain and to suppress others from telling the truth.

Its up to us.

16. This, rather, is precisely what it was "saved" for,
Isn't it?
This is kinda weird:
We have a weapon.
The radical clerics say if we try to use it, they'll take it away.
How's that again? We can't use it b/c if we do, we lose it; if we don't, we lose it.
Must be a catch 22 joke--we don't have a tool at all so why not spring the the damn thing and use the resulting crap to pile on some more negative "cheating" charges on top of the Abramoff/DeLay/Ney/Frist/Hastert/Roberts publicity, expose some more high handed illegalities-might convince a few more fence sitters.
Either way, it'll clear the scandal board and stop SOME of the hemorraging and "Hammer" some of the passive leadershit awake.
It's coming to me, now...we do it because we look soooo sweet and cute, doing these cool tricks, on the end of this chain, when some asshole turns that crank...

they probably never will. They need to get some backbone and stop "saving" the filibuster. Call the repuke bluff.
