New Heading: Junior's Gay Bashing is Really Clinton's Fault!
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 12:36 PM by IdaBriggs
ON EDIT: The first title was about being fair to Junior, but while it immediately got two recommendations (Thank You!), no one commented on the post, so I'm trying the "new/improved" heading. If it goes nowhere, I promise I'll slink into a corner to nurse my wounded pride. (snerk!)

Original Post Begins Here:

Let's be honest: when Junior and his crew first started their "GAY MARRIAGE IS GOING TO MAKE THE SKY FALL" nonsense back when Clinton was still President, things were going pretty well. The economy was in excellent shape, wages were rising, gas prices were low, and while there were parts of the world experiencing "problems" with normal natural disasters and the occasional rogue state, it was a commonly accepted fact that the United States Military, with its low casualty rate, excellent training, and top-of-the-line equipment, was an excellent career option for many of our best and brightest young people -- so good, in fact, that folks earnestly debated why "women and gays" were being "discriminated against" by not being ALLOWED to participate in the occasional "combat operation."

Yes, under President Clinton life was pretty great. Although Republicans tried to create scandals where none existed, apparently the best they could do was titillating snide comments about his sex life, a side benefit of which included a significant drop in teenage pregnancy rates as our younglings began to explore "safe" ways to experiment with each other that didn't involve egg and sperm colliding.

Sigh. Those were indeed the Good Old Days, and how can you run against "Peace and Prosperity" if you are a political challenger?

You make shit up, obviously, and try to "scare" people into running into your party.

Boo -- Gay People! Boo -- Sex! Boo -- Rock & Roll! Etc.

Toss in a few educated non-Caucasian people just to freak folks out, and WELCOME TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

So, with sinking approval ratings, and life in general in the toilet, who can blame the Republicans for going back to the good old tried and true tactics that worked so well in the past?

The problem, of course, is that Clinton is no longer President, and the good life in America isn't something most Americans are taking for granted anymore. Consider just these OBVIOUS changes --

-- The Economy = Not Good
-- Wages are lower than they've been in decades
-- Housing costs have increased, as well as personal debt
-- The figures for people requiring bankruptcy protection due to illness and/or job loss are staggering
-- Gas prices are flirting with $3.00 per gallon (nearly triple what they were five years ago!)
-- Thousands of American citizens have now died on national television from attacks by terrorists AND hurricanes (!)
-- Our military is considered to be "at the breaking point" and sane people actively discourage their children from joining
-- Election fraud has become a multi-million dollar industry, with the very future of our democracy at risk
-- Our most sacred documents -- the Constitution and the Bill of Rights -- appear to be used for toilet paper by our leaders
-- Daily stories of pedophilia and political corruption swirl around the toilet bowl that is our government
-- Access to legal medical treatment and medications is being eliminated
-- Government agencies designed to provide "checks and balances" against dangers to public health have been gutted
-- Add Your Own Scandal Du Jour, Etc.

Its difficult to get one's panties in a twist over someone else's sex life when you can't afford to fill your gas tank while hunting for a job.

Whining about "Scary Gay People" is a lot easier than actually Running a Country. Junior and his buddies aren't very good at doing anything except stealing money from the public treasury (and let's face it, that's the only reason they are there in the first place), but if they want to stay "in power" they have to at least PRETEND to care about "stuff" -- and look! The sky! Its Falling!

God, I miss President Clinton and the Good Old Days. In all fairness, I bet Junior does, too.
