1. I've thought this since I was in high school
It seems unfair that rights could be GRANTED by the SCOTUS under the Constitution, and then revoked. E.g. Roe.

6. The Constitution "gives" no rights, it protects rights that already exist.
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 08:44 PM by NYC Liberal
Just clarifying because too many people make the mistake of thinking that rights are granted by the Constitution, which they are not. If they were, they could be taken away.

That's why the 1st Amendment, for example, says that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech..." It DOES NOT say, "The people are granted the right to free speech," it says Congress cannot take away that pre-existing right.

8. Name me
one single proposal by any Republican/Conservative, in any adminstration in our country's history, that was designed to BROADEN our rights or civil liberties rather than limit them. And no, the rights of the corporations or the granting of personhood to said corporations doesn't count.
