A little history on what gays can do when backed into a corner.
Anita Bryant
Lovely woman. Orange Juice queen of the 70s. She decided that "for the children" that homosexuality must be fought at all costs. It eventually cost her the OJ endorsement, her singing career, and her celebrity status. She has been singing at nursing homes since the early 80s.

"Dr" Laura Schlesinger
Another beautiful mind. Paramount Television decided to give the AM ratings leader (She rivaled Rush during this time) her own hatefest on daytime TV. When the Internet was used mainly for dating and porno, a few gay people got together and created stopdrlaura.com. The boycotts, letters to Paramount, letters to potential advertisers, and a lot of noise, backed Laura into a corner, but unlike us, she blinked. She got her show, and it ran after midnight for 14 episodes, then went on "hiatus" for re-tooling. It's still on hiatus. She now has a fraction of the audience she had in 1999... a has been? Or was she exposed for the hatemonger she is?

Glaxo-Smith Kline $24,000 a year for AZT. That was the price in 1987 when it was found to be effective against HIV anti-bodies. A group that was started by Larry Kramer, ACT-UP protested, fought, and took to the streets, to embarrass the company and it's immoral pricing. The result? A reduction in price by more than half.

Amendment 2 The gay community in Colorado wasn't very organized before 1992. In 1993 it was one big political machine, and a unified front. The challenge to have this disgusting piece of discrimination struck down, drove all the way to the SCOTUS, where it was struck down as un-Constitutional. The 10th anniversary of the decision was celebrated here, on anti-gay, GOP Gov. Owens' front lawn last week.

Mel Gibson On some Australian talk show in the early 90s, he went off on gays. I paraphrase when he stood up, showed his butt to the camera, pointed at his ass and said "This is for shitting. Not for sticking dicks up there!". He lost a lot of fans there...he lost more when he released "Braveheart" and decided to portray the Prince's lover's death as an excuse for laughs. He ended up having to meet with those "dick stickers" to smooth over the public relations nightmare that he created, and that would have cost him the Oscar for that film.

Those are just a few lion's roars that come to my head right now. I hope some of you can add to it.

Chimpy is just one more, in a long line of hatemongers for political expediency that decided to tangle with us. Sometimes they win, but in the end, we win. We didn't start this fight, we didn't start this "Culture War". That was declared by Pat Buchanan, and the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston Tx. in prime time. So, all you liberal Christians out there, who wring your hands at what has been done to your faith, and how it's been hijacked by zealots, and don't know where to start to fight them. Grab a coke, sit down, and watch. We'll show you how it's done!

Roy Cohn
Joseph McCarthy
Strom Thurmond
J Edgar Hoover

They're all dead, and many more. We're still here. Let's get to work.

2. You are forgetting perhaps the most monumental of all.
Stonewall

The Stonewall riots, which as a whole is often called the Stonewall Rebellion, were a series of violent conflicts between lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, and queer persons and police officers in New York City. The first night of rioting began on Friday, June 27, 1969 not long after 1:20 a.m., when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village. "Stonewall," as the raids are often referred to, is generally considered a turning point for the modern gay rights movement worldwide, as it is one of the first times in modern history a significant body of gay people resisted arrest.

I wonder how Cheney can look his daughter in the eyes and tell her that he loves her?

17. I had NBC news on earlier. Why, I don't know.
But it was on. And I heard the "reporter/mouthpiece/asshat" say that "this isn't even an important issue with the president."

I thought, then :wtf: is he making such a big push for this hate legislation? It pisses me off the lengths that they (the reporters/mouthpieces/asshats) will go to protect whatever fucked-up message he is sending.

I wish there was an emoticon for raging homosexual. Because that's how I feel right about now.

I think people should usually put the subject of their post on the subject line. I'm sort of anal that way. :P
