Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist’s congressional campaign committee violated campaign laws by not properly reporting a loan, the Federal Election Commission ruled.

The group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which had filed a complaint against the Tennessee Republican’s 2000 Senate campaign, released documents June 1 showing the FEC’s finding. According to the documents, Frist’s campaign committee, Frist 2000 Inc., and its treasurer, Dawn Perkerson, agreed in April to pay an $11,000 civil fine.
