Meeting Al Gore Wednesday - what should I say to him?
I just bought two tickets to his global warming roadshow in Houston, for Wednesday night. I intend to buy a copy of the book and get it signed afterward.

I will have probably ten seconds of the President's time.

What should I say?

1. Say: Please Run
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 04:00 PM by ThomWV
I will not say that the times demand him to run, but I would not stray far from that message.

You might also say that Thom M, from West Virginia, supports him completely and is willing to work for his campaign full time without reimbursement for the full of any contest he might wish to enter. That is an offer of 100% of my time for as long as it takes.

But I want to be respectful and strong in my ten seconds.

I want to look him right in the eye and say, "You're my president. If you will run, we will be behind you. The world needs you."

justice finally be served? There's over 40 years of books that need opening, even the stuff that he and Clinton let slide once before.

A bunch of links are here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4863411&mesg_id=4876440

Your time will be well spent, as you will learn far more about the true history of America during the last half century than you were ever exposed to in school or through the news media.

Because when the CIA drugrunning came up a few years later, Clinton also quashed that talk, too.

Ruined the career of the superb investigative journalist who uncovered the story, too. That's a big part of what's wrong with this country today - the stifling of our best journalists.

66. It had to be to protect the operation put together by Poppy Bush.
Because what other reason could it be. Clinton was in office when the story first came out - he chose to ignore it, and Gary Webb got trashed - he was a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist.

Google CIA drugrunning and Gary Webb

29. thanks, StellaBlue....
we desperately need to jump-start these technologies and create innovative programs. Thom Hartmann has talked about a program in Germany where the government provides loans so people can put panels on their rooftops. The people then sell back the extra energy to the power company for 8 times the going rate (has something to do with the profits being made by power companies) for a certain period of time. The panels pay for themselves after a few years. One of Thom's friends was making something like ~$100/month. Thom said that he noticed many rooftops with panels as he was riding the train -- people are really responding to this program. Thom spoke about it on Friday during the Bernie Sanders segment in hour 1, near the beginning, if you want to hear it. (whiterosesociety.org has it, PM me if you cannot access the archive.)

What alternative energy needs right now is real LEADERSHIP. Perhaps you can talk to Al about pursuing this issue with the same tenacity he shows for global warming. He has the ability to reach large audiences. He has the contacts in industry. He's not beholden to the parasites running the power companies using coal, nuclear, hydro, and natural gas that are degrading the environment. He's the perfect man to lead this effort -- it's far more important than running for president, IMHO.

Thanks, Stellablue ....

25. say he needs to address economic issues of fighting global warming
I saw his movie the other night with a nonbeliever. The Non-believer was a little more convinced, but hes hung up on "factories being shutdown because of environmental issues". He said the factories can just go open up in some other country without regulations.

I think this is the biggest argument going against him. If I could tell Gore anything, I would tell him to focus on that part of the problem and convince people they will not loose their jobs to "tree huggers".

47. "'And then there's the little-known third option.' Great line!"
Best line of all the speeches in the 2004 Democratic National Convention. I don't think he ever gets enough credit for that one.

(He'll know what you mean, but for those scratching your heads, here's the context: Al said he had moved on since the 2000 election, because, quoting here from his speech: "You win some, you lose some, and then there's the little-known third option." The implication being, of course, that the third option is, "you have some stolen from you"--only he didn't actually come out and say it, which was a very classy way of handling it.)

Plenty of people will tell him to run. Plenty will thank him for just being an all around great guy, and an inspiration.

I bet nobody compliments him on being a fucking brilliant thinker and writer, which he is.

So that's what I'd do, given the chance, since you asked.

Here's how you motivate an Aries:

3) Tell the Aries that you believe he can do a better job than the person in #2

That is what I would tell him. I think he's doing great things educating people about the environmental threats. ... the kind people wear as safety gear if they're biking ... or out hunting. Act all relieved when you see him, and say, "I guess I won't need this anymore -- they told us the CURRENT VP was going to be here, so I'm glad it's you instead!"

I've heard that he has quite a sense of humor ... and anyway, people who are on book tour can get pretty tired and generally appreciate a laugh now and then.

And that should give you a lead-in to more serious issues.

74. It's TODAY!!!!!!!
I am so excited!

I've decided to thank him for what he's doing and tell him that I represent millions when I say I'd like the chance to re-elect him in 2006.

Then, depending on time, we'll see where it goes from there. That's probably all I'll get to say.
