Conyers:Net Neutrality Vote Possible this Week, ABA panel
The House is set to consider a telecom bill (the COPE Act) reported from the Commerce Committee which will amend the 1996 Telecommunications Act. The net neutrality protections that we passed in the Internet Freedom and Nondiscrimination Act are not included in this bill. There is a strong grassroots effort underway to compel House Leadership to allow a vote on our net neutrality bill as an amendment to the COPE Act. MoveOn.org and EBay have sent appeals to their membership to contact Congress and an incredible response has resulted. Let's hope enough people make calls to force a vote on this crucial bill.

In other news, the Boston Globe is reporting today that the American Bar Association is creating a panel of legal experts to examine whether the President is exceeding his constitutional authority regarding his use of signing statemets. You will recall that Jane Harman and I vigorously opposed the president's contention that he need not comply with the oversight functions of the Patriot Act.
