Accept all 3rd party cookies?
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 08:42 PM by bain_sidhe
I don't think so!

I suddenly have to set my "global" cookie handling to accept all third party cookies in order to log into DU. I'm sorry, there's a REASON I don't accept third party cookies not sent to the server itself. It would be one thing if I could specify accepting third party cookies only on DU, but that doesn't work. It only works if I set the "master control" to accept ALL third party cookies, no matter where it's sent.

I'm using Opera 8.51 It's not related to the google ads, because it only started doing this today. I had no trouble yesterday or at any time before today.

Why has this change been made?

Is anybody else having this problem?

**edited to add, and I have to LEAVE that setting on to *stay* logged in. I tried accepting the cookies to log in, then switching back to not accepting 3rd party cookies, and the first post I clicked on threw me right back out.

I hope this is the right forum... we don't have a "ask the administrators forum anymore, and I wanted to see if anybody else was having this problem.

1. NEVER accept "third-party cookies."
Just don't.

2. If I don't, I can't post.
It thinks I'm a "guest"

That's why I'm so upset. I've been changing it only when I want to post, then changing it back, but still. Who knows what's sneaking in the door while I have it open, eh?

5. There's something wrong with your browser settings, then.
In order to post, you only need to accept cookies from the DU site...those cookies are used to check your password and username so you can log in.

NO third party needs to verify your identity for you to post here. I'd suggest you send an email to the admins if you find that you can't post without accepting cookies from a site other than DU. I'm positive that's not how it's supposed to work.

7. Sorry, that doesn't work
I already have DU on my "approved for cookies" list, and I first tried to add "third party cookies approved for DU" to my list, that didn't work, the only thing that worked was to set the "global" handling to accept ALL third party cookies. Not even the global "accept 3rd party cookies sent to the server itself" worked.

4. Get Zone Alarm
www.zonelabs.com

and you can specify who and how many cookies you accept.

9. I prefer Opera
I've got firefox. I don't like it as much as Opera.

While I appreciate the "firefox loyalists" telling me how much they love their preferred browser choice, why is it so hard for them to understand that others may have a different preference? I like Opera for a variety of features not found in firefox that are useful *to me*.

And why is it that sites simply refuse to accommodate more than one or two popular browsers? When a commercial site won't work with Opera, I take my business elsewhere, and tell them that I'm doing so, and why.

I won't be logging into DU very often if they can't make this site work with opera. Period.

13. Well, in a new twist
It also works if I select (global, again) "let me decide each time" for third party cookies... and it doesn't present any cookies for me to accept or decline. But it works.

Very strange. I can't leave it like that forever, because it's a pain to surf with that enabled. Try it some time, you'll be amazed at how many third parties are trying to put cookies on your computer. (Which is directly what led me to start refusing third party cookies.)

16. I was having all kinds of problems like that.
Even specifying this site as an exception to cookie-bans didn't always work.

To be frank, I'm not sure how I got past it, but it happened to me a lot.

Maddening.

and no problems here.

Refuse all third party cookies is set.

On edit: You might want to try posting your questions in the computer help and support group. Good people there, very helpful.
