Well, I have been a daily lurker since the Summer of 2001 (and part-time reader since the 1st issue of the Top 10 Idiots), but I didn't register until mopaul said something about rebels. If it wasn't for his thread, I may have never registered here.



And his art affected me too. After decades of playing music (no time for painting, sculpting, etc.) I returned to the visual arts. Sparked by his genius, I began making computer-based visual collages (or what I call fotovandalism) about the things I read here and heard on the radio.

It's nothing against DU in any way. The DU has rules and if they're broken you get tombstoned. Long timers get a lot of elbow room but sometimes they just give up and look for greener pastures. Take Walt Starr for instance. He wasn't right after the Alito Filibuster. I think that took a lot out of him and he just cracked. I remember him writing a post that read, "Just tombstone me Right Fucking Now." Ask and ye shall receive.

Many of the tombstoned aren't totally dead, they're in a sort of a coma. I'm sure DU would take many of them back in a heart beat as long as their pride didn't get in the way. The best example of a burn-out was just recently with Will Pitt. No, he didn't in any respect crash and burn but he was definitely mad enough (and rightly so) to do something drastic. Luckily he cooled off and all is mostly well. But Will would have been a lose for our community. Luckily he realized that there were a great many more that trusted and respected him than the few who feel intimidated by him. As with any great cause, people come and go, faces and names change but in the end, their contribution is what started the back-swing of the pendulum and they should be remembered for that. If they stay in their graves, they at least should have an epitaph on their tombstone that reads, "Herein lies a great DUer."

and yes, I was tombstoned once. My daughter never let me live it down. She tells her friends that my hubby and I are Callie Libs (she's in the military). Anyway, I've seen some very talented people come and go on DU; people who have knowledge and can access news items and information better than I can. I have appreciated everything they shared.
