2. Google ads are keyword based
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 04:28 PM by blogslut
If threads and posts contain keywords such as Duke, Anne Coulter or Republican, then sites centering on those keywords will show on the page.

edit: spelling

3. Use Firefox and Adblock...
And the Adblock Filterset.g updater and you never see them. You can also add a little program called "Hostsman" and really kill off ads.

I have no idea what ads you are talking about because they do not appear in Firefox. Ever.

4. I do use firefox and adblock
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 04:30 PM by Lost-in-FL
If you look up, there are links at the top of the page in blue color. That was were I saw the word Ann Coulter. Advertising do not bother me but I do not expect solicitations from the GOP here at DU even if they pay good money.

10. I read it...

I know what you are saying but there must be a way to avoid that. Can they just "screen" for words like that then avoiding GOP promotions? It bothers me knowing that we are supporting GOP advertising. I guess it is only me that has an issue with this. I guess we can help the GOP advertise here for contributions as long as they pay us money.

12. I am sure
That the DU admins are doing their very best to tweak the ads program in order to keep such ads from appearing. However, Google Ads is a program, not a person. The gop is not deliberately advertising on DU.

15. I understand...
It is kinda like finding a bug on your favorite desert, actually worse... like believing that there was WMD's and then after 2000 troops and thousand civilians dead they tell you it was a mistake. It was kind of a shocker.

I think I need a drink...

Ok, that's better.

7. Are you sure you're using it?
I'm using FF & adblock, and I can assure you, there's not one single ad on ANY page on DU on my machine.

"24" wide by 34" tall"...an oversized dartboard...:D

On the bright side, maybe people will slow down posting about the hag, and she's only worth $4.87, $4 too much for me, but it shows desperation...

14. I think it's funny as hell when the keywords pull up this stuff
Don't click if it grosses you out!!! Wonder what would happen if we all wrote VIAGRA in our subject line???

Or WORK FROM HOME? Or EASY MONEY? Or UNEMPLOYED???

At least we know the adbots aren't using rational thinking...now that would be creepy.

"Dave..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL?
HAL: Affirmative, Dave, I read you.
Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL?
HAL: I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave Bowman: Where the hell'd you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
