Diebold's Reassurances are Not Enough
http://www.sltrib.com/opinion/ci_3894209

It likens Diebold's advice as:

"That is like saying that you need not lock your doors, take your car
keys or call your children in after dark unless you are paranoid enough
to think that there are any would-be criminals out there."

Today - also a good article in Deseret News by Josh Loftin:

Utah's OK with Voting Machines
http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635212549,00.html

There is also an article in June's Catalyst

Diebold vs. Democracy
http://www.catalystmagazine.net/issues/story.cfm?story=968

Thanks SK for these

3. I read a disgusting article that Utah loves W for his Christianity
Especially the Provo area. You know those white Mormon folks who never forgave democrat governors for forcing them to give up polygamy in order to vote.

Their definition of family values.

4. I'm afraid that too much focus on voting machines distracts from
all of the other forms of vote fraud--like caging (contesting votes creating long lines that discourage voters); provisional ballots; lack of machines/lack of working machines, etc. We have to be vigilant on all fronts when it comes to election fraud and if the voting machine issue is the focus, then people will assume the problem is solved if the machines are changed/removed, etc. Not the case.

6. The Mormons vote for Republicans
Because democrats ended polygamy. That's not a real difficut issue to understand.

8. Good point
However, the machines can change hundreds of votes with virtually a click of a mouse.

The time to make sure that voters are not turned away or otherwise stopped from voting is on election day, or at the end of registration period.

The machines will already be in place by then... programmed to count the votes any which way the programmers please. So, now is the time to defeat the machines before they even get setup.

Too, each individual has some responsibility to see that he or she is not turned away from voting, but the machines are financed by all of us, so it is a national, American issue - right now.

And given that the machine alteration of a vote takes one away and gives it to another really adds up to a double loss. While one vote lost is just one vote.

Good to see yall newbies paying attention, we will need everyone taking notice if we are to stop the vote stealing.

5. most mormons are straight up folks, though kinda fanatically religious
When the Bush crime family loses Utah they have lost both houses of Congress AND the Executive. Too bad the dems rolled over on filibustering the Judicial nazi.

7. Mormon Utahans don't know right from wrong
Remember when they thought it was SOP for Utah Mormons to accept bribes in the Olympic mess?

They simply have no reality of right from wrong. None at all.

9. I can't argue with that...
It's against my non-religion to argue in support of religious fanatics.
The ones I know definitely do the right thing as they see it.

They're Christo-fascists, yeah, but nobody's perfect...
:sarcasm:

12. At least they will know well ahead of time what a disaster...
...they are in for. The machine's first widespread use will be in the upcoming Republican primary. My mom (for some masochistic reason) agreed to be an election judge and recently completed a training seminar. She said that most of the people were of her generation, and for the most part computer and technologically illiterate. These are the people charged with setting up and maintaining the machines as well as instructing the voters in their use.

It should provide for some entertaining news coverage. In many areas of Utah the Republican primary IS the election. It's where the bad, the worse and the downright horrible vie for the (almost) guaranteed win in the general election. It would be sweet if they tore them selves up fighting over a botched primary; even more so if it could be dumped directly on Diebold.
