Email from Senator Obama re Alito
Dear Daniel:

Thank you for advising me of your view of the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the U.S. Supreme Court. I appreciate hearing from you.

The Constitution gives the Senate the special responsibility of "advice and consent" on appointments to the federal bench. As in the case of Chief Justice Roberts, my bottom line in evaluating the Alito nomination will be whether I have confidence that he will respect the constitutionally protected rights of individuals and resist the temptation to substitute personal ideology for legal reasoning.

While I look forward to getting a more complete picture of Judge Alito's judicial philosophy now that hearings are underway, I am concerned about some of the initial information we have received on his views. The significance of those concerns are especially important because Judge Alito has been tapped to replace Justice O'Connor, who was considered the swing vote on the Supreme Court. I can assure you that fact is not lost on me.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this significant matter. Please continue to stay in touch as the confirmation process develops.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
United States Senator

1. Thanks, DanCa. Seems as if Mr. Obama is as
unimpressed as we are!

2. That letter seems a bit more personalized than most...
Most of these are generic form letters that seem to be ignorant to the content of your letter... that's a pretty solid response.

3. No Fears...My Senators Are Two Solid Nos
I've sent "snail mail" letters to both Senators thanking them for their defense of our shrinking liberties and in standing up to both the ScAlito nomination and other antics of this regime.

4. I can't even imagine. I live in Texas so you know where my
state stands. Cornyn and KBH are dumber than boxes of rocks, to boot!
Consider yourself lucky.

6. Obama's going to be at COD in Glen Ellyn on Tuesday
10:00 am at the Macininch Center for a town hall style meeting. No advance tickets needed and it's free. The flyer I received states that he'll take audience questions, no pre-screening - FYI.
