U.S.
New law lets dogs chow down in restaurants

Saturday, June 3, 2006; Posted: 8:41 a.m. EDT (12:41 GMT

ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- At just 1 year old, Theo had already turned to a life of crime.

The tiny Yorkie would sneak into restaurants inside his owner's bag, usually undetected, but he and Marcy Richardson were occasionally kicked out.

Now the 26-year-old Richardson and Theo can stop worrying and start chowing down.

Gov. Jeb Bush on Friday signed the so-called "doggie dining" bill, which allows local governments to let restaurants permit dogs to eat with their owners outside.

Florida health regulations previously prevented all dogs except service animals from joining patrons al fresco, although several restaurants ignored the rules until local regulators started cracking down last year.

(snip)

We've got a few dining establishments where, if you pull up in your boat with your freshly caught fish, they'll cook it for you.

Which begs the question, if you take your dog to a chinese.....?

1. Yes, he got this one right. I'd much rather eat on a patio with dogs than
with smokers or misbehaving children.

2. I wonder if he realizes that the french have been sane and sensible about
this for years?

I don't mind the smokers nearly as much as I mind unmannered people and unsupervised children, so well-behaved dogs are welcome.

anybody read the "monsieur pamplemouse" detective stories? as a food critic, the main character takes his dog to many restaurants, and part of the review is based on his dog's reaction to the food. delightful.

5. Besides when was the last time you seen a dog using a cell phone and
yelling into it like they were the only important people around?

3. Bout time.
When I lived in Florida I used to love the pizza place on Atlantic Beach that didn't care if the pups were on the patio.... it was a lot of fun!

4. I go to a couple of nice places in Tarpon Springs
That ignore the law, and allow good mannered dogs in.

I used to take one of my dogs to a bar-restaurant in Cleveland on Saturdays. As soon as he walked in, they set him up with a draft beer, and a taco.

6. I love tarpon springs. do they still have that same ancient show about
the sponge divers? I don't remember the name of the restaurant that sits right about the bridge, but always enjoyed it.

7. Yeah, the still have the sponge diver show
Restaurant by the bridge, you're probably talking about Pappas's. They're closed now, but caddy-corner, across the street is Bally-Hoo, where you can find an occasional dog at the outdoor dining and tiki bar.

One of our favorites.
