"Aryan Unity Fest" organizer arrested
Madera County authorities have arrested a man they say planned a two-day white supremacist rally.

Bobby Dean Hubbard, 46, was arrested Friday on suspicion of violating conditions of probation after deputies found guns at his home…

They also found evidence that Hubbard was planning a weekend rally and rock concert at his 5-acre property in Coarsegold. <…>

Hubbard was on felony probation for terrorist threats and spousal abuse. Officers seized an SKS assault rifle, a shotgun and a .22-caliber rifle, along with ammunition…

Officers also found evidence of "Aryan Unity Fest '06," which was promoted on the Web site of a group calling itself "California Skinheads." It was billed as a "family event" that would be "open to all racial activists." <…>

Will the NRA pony up for his defense?

1. My civil libertarian sensor is in the red on this one
I mean what would be the reaction, if Bobby Dean Hubbard was not a racist, but an Wiccan organizing an benefit for local environmental and animal rights groups and was arrested for drugs? Though the sheriffs say that won't stop the concert as odious as it is, there is something that's rotten here. Shades of Bishop Niemoller's "First They Came For The Communists."

4. So I guess you won't have a problem when the
authorities come after those who organize, say an anti-war benefit on private property and will also "monitor" the activities of any anti-war activists(which they do anyway), then suddenly gets arrested for some marijuana on the property? Bobby Dean Hubbard is a total A-hole whole blames his shortcomings on others, but should be free to have his "Aryan Woodstock" on his property without harassment. A small price to pay for a free society. I call this as I see it, political.

5. Not if they have done something like this...
At the Hubbard home, though, officers found articles showing Ku Klux Klan affiliations, KKK clothing and photographs of burning crosses, Haroldsen said.

The hate crime charge, which likely will be filed today, stems from the altercation last year between Hubbard and a Jewish woman. Hubbard's daughter allegedly had previously called the other woman's daughter a "dirty Jew," according to Haroldsen.

Hubbard is accused of pulling the other mother's hair, pushing her to the ground and kicking her, Haroldsen said.

Witnesses also reported hearing Hubbard yell racial slurs, including the comment: "You should have burned in the oven with the rest of the Jews."

According to the California Penal Code, a hate crime can be charged after a verbal attack alone, or after a physical attack sparked because of the victim's race, color, religion or sexual orientation.

Hubbard has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of her criminal cases, school district spokeswoman Susan Bedi said.

6. I gotta agree. Went...
to California Skinheads' site to see the promo for this "family event" and they are as advertised-- the scum of the earth.

After disinfecting my browser and hard drive, I gotta say, however, that as nasty as they are, and well deserving of righteous asskickings and general loathing by normal people, they have the same right to free speech as humans do.

The article didn't fully load, so I don't know all the details about the charges, but they appear at first glance to be a bit trumped up. We scream bloody murder if the Man busts up one of our parties on such charges, and the Man just shouldn't be busting up anybody's party.

You don't arrest people just because you don't like them.

8. he was on felony probation, hence a _legitimately_ tight leash...

Wrong. A person serving a sentence of probation does NOT enjoy the same freedom in choosing his activities and associations as the rest of us. If this twit couldn't bear living under the terms of his sentence, he shouldn't have committed felonies in the first place.

12. Seems like the headline frames it badly

A headline that framed it more accurately might read: "Guy arrested; Happens to be Aryan event organizer," because that's really what happened. He got arrested for violating the terms of his parole. However, that's not a particularly good headline, so they went with the one they used, leading to the impression that his arrest was more closely related to the event, rather than just describing why it's of any significance

On Edit: So maybe it was just the DU headline that was a little confusing.

10. He was a FELON ON PROBATION, for fux sake!
I mean what would be the reaction, if Bobby Dean Hubbard was not a racist, but an Wiccan organizing an benefit for local environmental and animal rights groups and was arrested for drugs? Gawd, give me a break...

Hubbard is a felon who was on probation when he was arrested on firearms charges. A felon with an unexpunged record is not allowed to possess guns or ammo. For a person on probation to stay out of jail, he must live up to the terms of his probation sentence. Hubbard failed to do this, and therefore got his ass rearrested. The only things "rotten" here are this little nazi's arrogant, scofflaw behavior, and your asinine fretting over 'civil liberties' that aren't endangered by this perfectly ordinary criminal justice proceeding.

My civil libertarian sensor is in the red on this one

Toss it. It's busted.

7. It would have been great...
to have the New Black Panther Party, Urban League, Jews for for Racial and Economic Justice, League of United Latin American Citizens, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations show up.

It would have been more fun than that Geraldo episode that turned into a riot.
