Iraq says will press on with own Ishaqi probe
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 09:40 AM by bigtree

The junta is showing some grit.

Sat Jun 3, 2006 -- BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's government believes the U.S. military's exoneration of U.S. troops accused of killing civilians in the town of Ishaqi in March was unfair and will press on with its own investigation, an aide to the prime minister said on Saturday.

Adnan al-Kazimi also said the government would demand an apology from the United States and compensation for the victims in several cases, including the alleged massacre in the western town of Haditha last year.

"We have from more than one source that the Ishaqi killings were carried out under questionable circumstances. More than one child was killed. This report was not fair for the Iraqi people and the children who were killed," Kazimi told Reuters.

1. Bet this makes Chimpler re-think the value of "democracy in Iraq."
That prime minister is going to be a thorn in their sides.

I'm really quite blown away that the white-wash media has already proclaimed there's "nothing to see here" in terms of the Ishaqi killings. I shouldn't be surprised anymore; yet, I am.

2. I was skeptical until now. I'm back to hoping he'll call for us to leave
before the 18 mos. he predicted it would take.

3. this is the wedge that could hasten our troop's exit
outrage at the activities of our forces. Who better to call the U.S. out on our unnecessary violence than the leader of Bush's own junta?

I think it will have an impact.
