Zogby from the Detroit Free Press
See the whole article on Rawstory.com because I think this was in the paper yesterday. But it is interesting.

70% of Americans think the US is headed in the wrong direction

68% of Americans think the war in Iraq is not worth the price in American lives

Iraq is the top issue for voters

Immigration in the 2nd most important issue.

Bush is so politically unpopular that he will not be able to help any Republicans in the 06 elections

Guliani & McCain are the only two Republicans that aren't affected by the Republican Party's growing unpopularity.

And katrina may well be a more important issue that 9/11.

He thinks we may see a Democratic landslide - but the down side is that the Democratic Party doesn't have even one single issue that they can stand on.

I don't agree with that - I think the Democrats need to stand up on the Global Warming and other important environmental issues - which Gore is doing.

And on getting a resolution to the disaster in Iraq.

1. If McCain keeps his lips attached to Bush's ass on Iraq look for that to
change as well. Hillary needs to pay attention as well. Potential 2008 candidates have to stand up NOW and say that the only option is withdrawal of U.S. troops if they want anyone to pay attention to them in 2008.

2. Dems don´t have an issue?
How about repairing the damage done to our country over the last 25 years. It won´t be easy and it won´t be cheap.

4. I do want to see more acting and less re-acting from the Dems
I really think that would help as well.

Of course, when they do, it isn't covered, so no one knows it's happened.

7. Right now all the democrats need to do is sit and watch the
Republicans implode.

10. Well, see, I'm not sure I agree
I think we can do that. But I think there's a whole country out there waiting for leadership. They've finally realized they won't be finding that with the GOP. But we've got to come out strongly for all that we believe in, and show them we're ready to lead, not simply oppose the evil that is Bush.

I agree that I will enjoy thoroughly watching them take themselves apart, however.

I just want to see us taking the initiative to move things in a positive direction at the same time.

11. Oh, I agree with you. I wish the Democrats would come out
with a strong set of ideas. And a strong leader.

And we have good people but somehow they just don't seem very forceful.

8. The "single issue" for Dems is easy -
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 08:39 AM by sparosnare
Out of Iraq by the end of the year. John Kerry outlined the plan and the Dems need to run with it. By the election in November, that 68% will grow even larger.

I don't see how they can lose since it's the most important issue to Americans. "Bring the Troops Home by Christmas".

9. I give them the issues: Freedom from oil...creating jobs for Americans
by building our infrastructure and a rail/mass transit system that is the model of the world. Creating wealth for the UNWEALTHY by tending to our own internal affairs and offering opportunities for legal citizens and enforcing laws against the unlawful hiring practices of corporations, and enforcing and changing banking laws to fight the usury now flaming our middle class. I striking out for making education ATTRACTIVE for our children and for those who would teach them. A full court press for teaching HISTORY...real history including the interface of history with the Bible..real history, not some hokey-pokey myths that contradict themselves and confuse would-be followers. A move to seriously look at the location of industries in this country and an all out effort to build communities nearby to eliminate the need for much auto travel. A push to get universal healthcare for citizens by focusing on needed medical specialities and not the face-fixing millionaire docs that cater to the wealthy. there are a few more but I am drained right now...the situation in our nation is really taking its toll on me and others like me who really love this country and most of the people in it.

12. I agree.
Dems have the environment, which can certainly be tied to new energy (high gas prices). I wish they would all get on board already.

14. Too Many Issues...And Everyone's Agenda Is More Important
Yes, Global warming is a big issue and it's time to finally put the asshats who try to debunk it in their place and educating people about those who claim there's no such thing as shills for the oil companies and others who profit from messing up the planet...demonize them like those who smoke now get blamed for creating cancer with second-hand smoke. But to say that's the most important issue in '06 shows how all over the map Democrats are.

There's so many issues that the Repugnicans have either distorted or abused that many Democrats camp on their one issue...Iraq, Environment, Gay Rights, Abortion and so on as being "the most important". Instead of creating a big picture of not just the culture of corruption but the overall poluting not of just the environment, but of the entire human experience. Those issues can be cited as examples, but to say one issue rises above all others leads to divisions among Democrats as a person who thinks global warming is #1 tends to dismiss those who say Iraq is who dismiss those who think Immigration (racism) is...overall, it is used to hammer Democrats on the whole as not standing for something cause there's different groups standing in different places.

If Dr. Dean has the 50 state strategy, it's soon going to be time to tie it all together with a 50 state message that cuts through the bullshit...and even more important that all Democrats look at the bigger picture than their own little corner...and either give lip service or are dismissive of those who issues don't jive with their priorities.

15. How about NATIONALIZING THE ENERGY INDUSTRY?
How's that for an issue? Make the energy industry a UTILITY! Make it so government-regulated that it could never have the power to absorb the treasury, declare wars, and suck the life out of the average American again.
