"The United States does not target civilians," - Rumsfeld
http://www.peaceaware.com/documents/factsheets/War_is_Civilian_Death.htm

* In WWI, the total number of Civilian Casualties was 12,755, or 10.74% of the total casualties (106,000 GIs died; 8 million civilians died).

* In WWII the civilian casualties were approximately 410,000, or 50.62% of the total (400,000 GIs died; add to the civilian total the 8 million Holocaust; and add 17 to 60 million civilian causality estimates worldwide).

* In the Vietnam War, civilian casualty estimate is 340,000, or 85.74% of total casualties (56,000 GIs died; 200,000 South Vietnamese soldiers died; 1,000,000 North Vietnamese soldiers died).

* In the narrow window of the Gulf War (1990-1991) 5,000 civilian casualties, or 92.89% dead and 383 GIs dead from accident or friendly fire during 1991-1992;

* But Since 1992 more than 1.2 million civilians, or 99.15% (estimates range as high as 1.7 million dead) and 10,324 U.S. GIs dead since the war. Of the 1.2 million civilian casualties, 500,000 are children under five.

The increase in Civilian Casualties from War and Sanctions is why the Gulf Wars violate the Geneva Convention. Such high rates of casualty are considered War Crimes.

9. Hey there. The graphic on Rumsfeld there is what I imagine he
looks like under the bureaucratic veneer of his outer skin.

A frightening, monstrous, conflicted man.

3. Typical Rumsfeld Double Speak
We may not specifically target civilians, but when you put your soldiers in an environment of constant street violence, it's a natural outcome. It was only a question of time before Iraq produced its own My Lai. And what we've heard about is I'm sure only the tippy-tippy-top of the iceberg.

10. And We Do Not Torture...And...And...And...
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 07:59 AM by GR
It's ok if we kill thousands of civilians, or as they're better known "collateral damage" if we do it ON ACCIDENT, don't ya know...

Rummy tries to create an alternate reality, but some of us aren't buying...
