A suggestion for those in religious services on Friday Saturday and Sunday
This weekend the religious right is getting its churches to call and or write federal legislatures to lobby for the amendment that would end marriage equity. I think those of us at more justice oriented churches should also write and call. We should point out that Jesus would care about more than just same sex marriages. Jesus would think it mattered that we are still in Iraq killing our and Iraqi people. Jesus would care that 40 million of our citizens are uninsured. Jesus would care that we are taxing the poor and middle class while cutting the taxes of the rich. Jesus would care that we are despoiling the enviroment. Well you get the picture. We should try to make it that for every letter a Congressperson gets saying we need that amendment s/he should get one saying Jesus cares about other things.

1. I have to agree, we have been silent for too long. We understand
the teachings of Jesus not to be Hypocrites on the corners wearing our faith on our sleeves, but, even he had enough at the temple, and so have I. It is time to fight back with truth, honesty, humility and justice for all. So, let's rock the money changers world!

3. I always do that when they bring up gay marriage at huby's fundagelical
church. "What about the starving children and wars of aggression and real problems??"

5. In an attempt to be tacful they say things like, "Yes, those are problems
too and we are doing what can with them, but God's Word says what is right and wrong and we have to act accordingly in all areas, even gay marriage."

Or some such thing.

Honestly, I don't know why they are so wound up about this stuff. It's souls that fall in love; does the plumbing really matter so much? *sigh*

6. I actually just ask "Where did Jesus say any thing about (insert
fundy stuff)", they can't answer because.... he actually broke a lot of the OT laws, himself.

7. Actually, I often suspect that the most rabid fundies
DON'T fall "in love" with their souls - they are too overly concerned with legal benefits, public displays, ceremonial shallowness and everything else BUT the reason people fall in love.

8. If the church is becoming political, they need to lose tax-free status
Bring your video cams to services. Record them making political statements that are defined in the Repuglican Party. Report them immediately and have the tape as proof.

These hypocrites need to get off the dole and start paying taxes immediately if they dare get into political stances.
