Bush hates it when he isn't referred to as "Mr. President"
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 11:24 AM by WI_DEM
I was listening to the radio this morning and a guy was talking about how he met Bush during the 2004 campaign and he shook his hand and said, "nice to meet you Mr. Bush" to which Bush apparently turned stone serious and said, "That's Mr. President." This is not the first time I've heard this about him. I wonder how he would respond if people called him "Mr. Asshole" to his face?

86. Mr. Worst President , would be more appropriate.
A Quinnipiac Poll released today gives President Bush one more reason to be concerned about his approval numbers: Lots of voters not only think he's doing a lousy job, but they rate him as the worst president since World War II.

112. "Doctor of Philosophy" predates "Doctor of Medicine" by some centuries...
... I do believe. IIRC when the MD designation was new, there was some territoriality over their use of "doctor" -- as in, did they have the right.

In academic settings even today (that is, universities) you'd be pretty foolish to not remind your students just how far you out-rank them on the knowledge scale. In high school and community college my teachers were Mr, Mrs, and Miss. But as soon as I hit the university, they were professors and called Doctor.

I got my PhD in midlife, but since I'm not in the university/academic world I seldom get a chance to use it as a title. If I ever publish, you can bet it will be part of my byline though. It's a credential, and I earned it.

113. A close friend of mine is a PhD
but he doesn't go around advertising it in his everyday life. In his professional life, however, damn straight he's "Dr." He investigates fires and explosions for a living, and also gives expert testimony in court, so he'd be a fool not to (as you so rightly point out) remind people just how qualified he is in his field. It's a credential to be proud of.

The only time my friend uses his title for "personal gain" is when he flies. Some time back he discovered that having "Dr." before his name often gets him an upgrade.

... back when my grandmother was dying and no one in the family could get a straight answer about her condition. He's a (now-retired) professor of history, but he discovered that he could get all kinds of info about his mother by phoning and introducing himself as Doctor So-and-so.

I couldn't FUCKING believe the arrogance of that prick. As the reporter started in, saying, "Sir... in regards..." Bushler actually rolled his eyes away from the guy in anger, turned back and leaned in toward him with his, "Who are you talking to?" in his best condescending asshole tone. I called and pointed it out to Randi Rhodes and she ran with it (well, actually, they dismissed my call and didn't let me on the air, but she ended up talking about it in the next hour, so I felt vindicated :) ).

I can't wait for the day when people boo, harass and harangue him everywhere he goes.

On the other hand, I just realized recently that we (taxpayers) will be paying for this pox of a family for a long time. All ex-Presidents and widows of ex-Presidents get secret service protection for life. Plus they get a budget to run their administrative affairs. That means we'll be paying for the Chimp to ride his bike and cut brush at the ranch for years to come.

I can't imagine how much this piss-ant is going to end up costing us in the end. Money down a rathole.

My concern is that perhaps Bush will never give up the office (due to some national emergency of his cabal's engineering) so HE will never have to worry about going without the SS.

57. He knows as well as anyone that he's a mere shell - no substance...
... without the cloak of the presidency around him.

Not a man, not a human being... he's nothing. And he knows it.

He is literally an incarnation of the "Clap Louder!" tinkerbell mentality.

62. AND I'M SICK OF PEOPLE NOT USING HIS FULL TITLE DAMMIT!!!

It's not "decider." the correct way to refer to this dignitary is DECIDER-IN-THIEF! If you lack the respect to refer to this fine man by his Formal Title, DER FUHRER at least have the courtesy to not abbreviate and call him by his true title Decider-in-Thief.

63. In the beginning, he didn't want "Hail to the Chief" played.
Apparently, he's changed his mind.

(snip)

"Hail to the Chief" doesn't play for Bush during first weeks of presidency, at Bush's request. White House official calls it "example of humility and decency and fairness," in Washington Post. "I think it'll just be played at fewer occasions, rather than more occasions," says press secretary Ari Fleischer.

96. he even gets snippy over "President Bush"
I suppose he thinks there's a chance they might be talking about his father instead of him, and resents that. It's "Mr. President" or else.

Of course, a mere "sir" simply isn't enough for Dubya, Man of the People, as one reporter learned the hard way (already noted by earlier posters).
