Rice Warns Iran It Doesn't Have Much Time
Rice Warns Iran It Doesn't Have Much Time
Jun 2, 7:52 AM (ET)
By GEORGE JAHN and ANNE GEARAN

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - The United States warned Iran it will not have much time to respond once it is offered an international package of rewards to encourage it to suspend uranium enrichment, suggesting that the window could soon close and be replaced by penalties.

"It really needs to be within weeks," U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told NBC's "Today" show, referring to the six-power package of perks or penalties aimed at halting Iran's enrichment activities.

In separate comments on National Public Radio, Rice suggested she was ready to meet her Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki, if Tehran agreed to suspend the activity that can be used to make nuclear arms and negotiate the details of the deal.

10. Hmmm, 6 wees would be close to the July New Moon.
Which is interesting.

Then again I wouldn't be really surprised if Cheney was waiting until the Congressional summer recess to kick off a bombing campaign...it would be so much easier to claim they just couldn't wait until Congress got back to biddness.

6.  Russians say a deadline isn't part of the package
June 02, 2006 -- TALKS between six world powers in Vienna on the Iranian nuclear issue excluded all recourse to force as a method of solving the problem, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

"I can unequivocally say that all the agreements from yesterday's meeting in all circumstances exclude the use of military force" against Iran, he was quoted by RIA-Novosti news agency as saying.

"There is no kind of ultimatum deadline, although I think we are talking about several weeks," he said.

7. Didn't the United States once have Secretaries of State that
labored to avoid war? Who worked hard to reach compromise, exhausted every diplomatic channel and angle, and never relented in a quest to reach a peaceable solution?

Instead of simply delvering threats and ultimata?

Seems like such a long time ago ...

"Time is running out. We only have two and a half years left to profit from their oil fields before the Dems move in to the White House."
