I think there are more mis- or dis-informed people out there; and a lot of folks just don't have the inclination to absorb any more news than they happen to encounter while channel- or web-surfing.

Those people might be, in a sense, criminally negligent, but it's surely a sin of omission, not commission.

And anyway, if they're merely ignorant, let's face facts--they're relatively easy to turn to our side, since the facts do have a liberal bias.

I'm thinking more about the greedheads who pay attention to current events, but find any number of ways to justify voting for POS, whether it be some phony fundie reason, or some phony "security/defense" reason, the truth is they just want to keep their measly $1000 tax cut (or whatever the amount may be). I don't really consider truly ignorant people who say "Yeah, Bush seems okay to me. He's like fighting the terrorist in Iraq right now right?" to be " Bush supporters." Those people are the dolts who keep "American Idol" and "Survivor 12: Talahassee" at the top of the ratings.

I think that one of the worst crimes of the BFEE is taking advantage of the good nature and lack of Political insight among those in middle America. I believe these people have been used and are suffering more for the crimes of this administration more than those of us in Blue States.
Their very love of our country was used against them.

30 years ago next week, I started a transcontinental bicycle ride. The people of Kansas were absolutely incredible. Their love for America and their fellow man was a true inspiration. You had to be careful not to take advantage of these kind wonderful people. The BFEE had no qualms about taking advantage of these people for their own fun and extreme profit.

The people of middle America are know starting to wake up. I fear for these people, after being hoodwinked as they have, will they ever be as kind and giving as those people i remember 30 years age.

...that I think it's about time that the idea of being a good citizen included more than just paying your bills and taxes, keeping your kids fed, etc. It should also include keeping well-informed on issues on both a local and national scale. Voting and being well-informed should be considered a duty, really.

But Middle America (red States) is bombarded by right wing newspapers, preachers and hate radio. There is a "vast right wing conspiracy" that is taking advantage of these people, they think they are informed. The snake oil salesmen have convinced them that things like gay marriage are more important than global warming.

I should have put a choice that "patriotism is irrelevant - I believe that love for humanity is better and more important that love of country" or something like that.

I love my adopted country and its people as much as I love the US, or the version of the US I grew up in, which now exists only in fantasy - replaced by a right-wing, thuggish oligarchy.
