New National Guard Recruitment Program
http://www.katv.com/news/stories/0506/332206.html

Little Rock - More than three years after the War in Iraq began, the National Guard recruitment in Arkansas is on the rise. Recruiters say more than a thousand men and women have signed up for the guard in 2006, which is way above the numbers at this date in 2005. snip

But that is not stopping them from signing up. Recruitment is up 75 percent from a year ago, even though there have been as many as 69,000 guard members stationed in Iraq since the war began. Sixteen Arkansas Guard members have been killed since 2003.

(Donna Miller, National Guard Recruit)"If I'm gonna die -which there's the possibility of that - then I wanna die doing something that's good for everyone."

5. In Arkansas, you mean? AK is Alaska...
Dunno, but clearly they aren't rocket scientists, and neither are some of the putzes who commented on that story at the link.

2. OK
The dumbing down of America is in effect. Don't see any upper class/rich kids signing up.

3. Hey, Don, here's the story..
from the article:

(SSG Harold Grubbs, Drill Sergeant)"There's a pretty high failure rate…today's generation, while they're motivated and willing to serve, and I commend them for that, when they get down to basic training, a lot of them are having trouble adjusting to the military life."

Is the not the biggest cluster f(@k of all time?

Tom

4. Yeah, noted these kids hope to earn $ for an education
My Republican friend says she is so thankful she can afford to pay her kids tuitions so they don't have to risk their lives. True patriotism, true elitism, as practiced by W and Cheney. "Let someone else do it".

How very sad.
