That's it! I'm immigrating to Canada!
Edited on Tue May-30-06 05:52 PM by Writer
Chomsky says that America is over! And because The Independent claims that he is America's most renowned thinker, I am packing up and shipping out - my stint as an American is over.

The Enlightenment claimed that we were rational. Oh how we bought that bill of goods! Rational? More like petulant. Selfish. Catty. Morbidly visceral.

I can't take it (swoon!) I must climb my way out of this snake pit of alleged democracy. I mean, I know that Great Cabal of churches/government/corporations/media is coming after me. I HAVE NO POWER 'CAUSE I HAVE NO MONEY! It's not my own choices that give these institutions power. No! It's some grand conspiracy or logic that undermines my citizenship. So I'm not going to try to protest, voice my concerns, or exercise my vote. And my vote - OH! That too has been undermined! I might as well wad up the Constitution and throw it into the garbage.

Canada, here I come! I promise I won't make fun of your 'bohts' and 'ohts'... hell, I'll adjust my accent to blend in. For, alas, my former nation, my former USA, is no more.

(If you don't get the twisted irony in this, then I'm sorry. Otherwise )

4. The people who endlessly threaten to leave aren't leaving...
The ones who are quietly getting their passports, reading up on Canadian emigration laws, studying French, etc. are the ones that will leave.

It's like working for a bad company. The ones who threaten to quit the most are the last to leave.

12. Emigrate is to leave one's country for a new one so the term is correct.
If he/she can qualify as a skilled worker, it wouldn't be as hard. Some Provinces are in need of certain skilled workers.

I would be emigrating FROM the US. Or immigrating TO Canada.

And I'll do it! I SWEAR! (grrrrrrr!)

13. Writer. Please summarize Chomsky.
Chomsky is a god to us. A new book or what. DU helps keep us informed. Beat you to the punch. We now live in the SOuth of France. Feel much freer. For starters seperation of church and state is a part of the constition. And freedom of the press. There is a right wing press along with Socialist and Communist. Communist= 'L'Humanite.' I think it's good to hear from ALL perspectives. Not that Communists have all that much influence.
Also here you can drink Cuban rum and coffee along with really good cigars. When going back through US Customs last January, just felt like a police state in the making.

17. Chomsky to America: "You are DEAD TO ME."

I know he's God. "Manufacturing Consent" is our Bible. I read a passage per night and light a candle. Yadda yadda yadda.

23. Other Bible is ZInn.
I get out ZInn and read from People's History of the United States. At least a chapter once a month to refresh my memory.
Without this book, people do not know what the US is about. Should be required reading in US schools.
Liked a comment Zinn made about this book. A senior in a US high school asked, now I have no hero's. Zinn said. Wrong, you just need to change who your hero's are. Writer. thanks for the lead.

15. I don't know if you are serious but I agree with your reasoning.
I would leave too if I had the means, was younger and had better health. I would, however, move to France.

If you leave I wish you well. The United States is finished as a free country, it's all over.

I unfortunately rely on the VA for too many vital services and I must visit them too many times a month. If I were young, I would be certainly elsewhere without a pause for thought.

24. Health not the best
That is cause to move to France. Medical system is vastly superior. No HMO bs and far less expensive than rip off's centered about the owner's of US system. Saw a letter by a US doctor living in Europe commenting about US health care system, read at the International Herald Tribune. He said patients in the US are not patients, but "profit centers." I know from personal experience. I say he is right on.

26. I agree that health care is lacking in this country. The worst joke is
Medicare, it should be renamed Wedon'tPayCare. It costs $88.50 a month whether you use it or not. Then if you use it they will send you a statement that puts most of the charges into the co-pay or deductible column which means YOU PAY that too. Then they play this game with your secondary insurance.

(Having storm here, will come back and edit to continue my thoughts.)

Continuing from previous post:
I agree that health care is lacking in this country. The worst joke is Medicare, it should be renamed Wedon'tPayCare. It costs $88.50 a month whether you use it or not. Then if you use it they will send you a statement that puts most of the charges into the co-pay or deductible column which means YOU PAY that too. Then they play this game with your secondary insurance. I found that Medicare tells the secondary insurance that they paid x amount when it is actually their write-off and they haven't paid a cent to the provider. Then the secondary doesn't pay either.

Getting back to health issues, I don't feel that I could physically handle a move. I do appreciate the information about France and would move there if I were able and had the means to do it.

(Storm is over. Our temperature fell to 73, electric flickered but stayed on, predicted strong winds missed us too.)

28. all I ask is that you do it legally
Go through their process and dont break their immigration laws. Itll be better for you and Canada if you follow the rule of law.

To tell you the truth, I wouldnt mind moving away from this country and what its becoming. A fascist state run by greedy corporations and the politicos who whore for them. Its getting really bad, and we dont seem to have a population who get it.

29. Canada is very picky about who gets to stay there
they want all of us to come spend our american dollars there, but when you provide free medical care to all your citizens, you do have to keep the population down.

30. You're very welcome, Writer, but I am afraid it's 2 late now...
...since that (now) neo-con$-lite war criminal$ have taken over (they R a minority but, like their 'idol$' down South, they don't give a f**k about being in the minority. They're only criminal$ for endle$$ greed, but they like it). See?

(Canadian) Troops told Geneva rules don't apply to Taliban
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2314568

Should I recommend you migrate to Mexico instead? Anyway, I am feeling shameful of my country now. I even think to leave as soon as I can.

Do they have Public Health Care in Mexico? If not, it doesn't matter too much anyway, because our Public system here won't remain Public for very long now... The new criminal$ in the minority will soon make certain their $ponsor-friend$ will be the only one$ to profit from our deseases soon...

Sorry. (Unless Quebec becomes an independent country as soon as possible.)
