This outrage on the part of Congressmen re; raid on Jefferson's office
is really making me furious. Listening to this hearing now and all the ranting by these rubberstamp Rs about the subverting the constitution by the executive only brings to mind how willing these people are to subvert the constitution when it comes the constitutional rights of citizens. They have systematically signed away our rights over the last 6 years. This really needs to be pointed out to them. They have not exercized oversight nor anything beyond partisan oneupmanship in making very crucial legislative choice that impacted the average citizen's rights. Let's get them to look at that obscene monstrosity they birthed called the Patriot Act.

1. I share your outrage; why haven't they been fighting for OUR

rights? Only when it effects them and their futures have they shown an iota of concern.
So much for constituents, eh.

Edit to add: I'm glad to see Jonathan Turley there; he's been outraged all along.

4. It's also heartening to see Bruce Fein (sp?) there too.
He used to get under my skin during the Clinton impeachment, but he is a sound scholar and someone I believe cares about the constitution.

7. Yes, he's making great sense and I do believe he really cares.
He testified recently, but I'm wracking my brain about what; Alito? An impeachment panel?

And da man, John Conyers!

2. Agree and Disagree
I agree that they aren't in any moral position to be outraged; on the other hand, on the merits, they are right in this particular case (in my opinion). It is of course sad that the only rights they are willing to defend are their own.

It puts one in a tricky spot - but I suppose I am in favor supporting them on this case, while reminding them what knuckleheads they are, and voting in a Democratic Congress in the fall.

3. Then they came for "me" says Congress
Edited on Tue May-30-06 09:11 AM by malaise
First Bush and Gonzales came for the terrorists, but I was not a terrorist, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the enemy combatants, but I was not a combatant, so I did not object. Then they came for the protestors resisting "free speech zones" near Bush campaign rallies, but I was not a protestor and so I only voiced my unease.

Still their willingness to give away citizens rights exposes them as self-interested hypocrites, but better late than never.
Edit -add word

5. The last thing members of the party of responsibility want is a precedent
They could not possibly care about Rep Jefferson and his constitutional liberties. They are fearing a democratic victory in the senate and house and white house. Now the precedent has been set, lets take a look at what's in your office congressman. This is typical "conservative" outrage; lacking anything resembling a principiled rationale.

6. Did You Just Hear Sensenbrenner?
He said "when" the next congressman is investigated.....Amazing, how it is a given that congressman will be investigated. WTF is wrong with being honest?

8. Let the bastids eat cake
They get not one ounce of sympathy from me. Domestic spying is all well and good as long as it doesn't touch them? TOO BAD! In fact, after years of living in "their" America, their skin-crawling outrage makes my day - no - my week, perhaps even my month.

9. I'm with you!
What makes Congress above the law? It was a legally executed search warrant, signed by the courts. What kind of check has their been on congressional corruption?
