They said if we would just escalate the bombing and send in a few hundred thousand more troops we would have them Vietnamese eating out of our hands.

We were lied to then and we are being lied to again. The more troops we sent and the more bombs we dropped the worse things got.

I remember it was just like yesterday.

If we continue to stay and continue to drop God knows how many tons of bombs across the countryside, we'll only succeed in killing a lot of people and winning over none of the survivors, and there would be more atrocities like Haditha.

If we leave sooner rather than later, there's a real chance the ethnic/sectarian tensions Saddam kept bottled up so long will boil over, and the country splinters like Yugoslavia unless a new authoritarian dictator emerges and forces people to live under one nation.

Either way we leave defeated and humiliated. Maybe the war was lost the day it began.
