New Federal Guidelines for all women until menopause..American Taliban
More congressional control over the womb...and mind. Just when you think it can't get any more ridiculus...

Outrage Alert: Barefoot And...

Here's one for the Oh-My-God-Margaret-Atwood-Was-Right File:

The federal government (run by people who just love women but hate everything they do) has issued new guidelines asking all females who are capable of conceiving a baby to treat themselves as "pre-pregnant" regardless of whether or not they plan on having children.

Okay. Okay. Deep breaths.

Realistically, there is nothing in these guidelines that's actually bad. It's all good advice: avoid smoking, maintain a healthy weight, take a folic acid supplement, keep asthma and diabetes under control. It's not the recommendations that are the problem here. It's the outright misogyny of it, embraced by the Center for Disease Control and all kinds of other A-list agencies.

Ladies, this is what your national government thinks of you. You are, first and foremost, a vehicle for procreation. It is your responsibility to make sure you care for yourself as such, because God knows you're all whoring it up so much that most pregnancies these days come as a surprise to the mother. We don't believe in birth control so we're not going to educate you about that — we'd rather make sure you're physically ready to repopulate the earth at a moment's notice. So put down that glass of wine and start doing those Kegels.

And while you're at it, take those shoes off and get back in the kitchen.

1. Hitler said...
A women's place is in the home, producing new soldiers for the Reich. So now the CDC has bought into 70 year old Goebbels propaganda.

I wouldn't mind it if indeed as the story said, it was presented as 'good health information', but the pre-pregnant bit is rather telling. Couple it with all the marriage kerfuffle, and then the so-called abortion 'debate'....well, I can see where this is leading.

2. Let me get this straight: According to this recommendation,
Edited on Mon May-29-06 08:09 PM by ocelot
"pre-pregnant" women shouldn't smoke, drink, work with lead-based paint or empty cat litter boxes because of potential harm to a fetus they don't have and might never have. This means all women between puberty and menopause shoudn't ever smoke (good advice in general, but offered for the wrong reason). No drinking at all because you might get pregnant and harm your fetus with alcohol before you know it's there. If you're under 50-ish you shouldn't get involved in home remodeling because the lead in older paint might harm the fetus you don't have. And unless there's somebody in your household who will always empty the kitty litter box, don't get a cat, either, because sometimes cat poo can carry toxoplasmosis, which can harm the fetus you don't have.

Remember: Your potential fetus is more important than you. I'm glad I'm old so I can smoke, drink, remodel and have pet cats. So I guess I'll go pour myself a nice glass of pinot grigio and clean out the cat box.

It's also just under six months before we have our next, and possibly last chance, to rid ourselves of the Republican Cult.

30. And don't let's forget: women can't work at a vet clinic in any capacity
because of the risk of exposure to toxoplasmosis and xrays.

3. We must maintain healthy breeding stock.
That is incredibly chilling.

Of course on the surface it's sensible advice, but note, those guidelines aren't meant for the health of the woman -- it’s all about the fetus.

And, they are putting out these so-called health guidelines in anticipation of a time when a legal abortion is not an option. Or even contraception for that matter, why would a woman on the pill be considered "pre-pregnant"? An edict that women WILL do their duty and reproduce -- and their offspring better be healthy specimens for the Reich.

Forever Pregnant
Guidelines: Treat Nearly All Women as Pre-Pregnant

By January W. Payne
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, May 16, 2006; Page HE01

New federal guidelines ask all females capable of conceiving a baby to treat themselves -- and to be treated by the health care system -- as pre-pregnant, regardless of whether they plan to get pregnant anytime soon.

Among other things, this means all women between first menstrual period and menopause should take folic acid supplements, refrain from smoking, maintain a healthy weight and keep chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes under control.

An workout incentive to dream of... A sweeter quit-smoking aid ... Ten ways to deceive your regulator?

While most of these recommendations are well known to women who are pregnant or seeking to get pregnant, experts say it's important that women follow this advice throughout their reproductive lives, because about half of pregnancies are unplanned and so much damage can be done to a fetus between conception and the time the pregnancy is confirmed.

7. Ann Coulter take note
you're "pre-pregnant". Do what your male authoritarian government officials say and get to a healthy weight, quit drinking and smoking, try to develop some muscle tone, and hurry up and find someone to marry so you can fulfill your obligation to our country and start popping out children.
If you don't, you hate America.

21. More heinous interpretation
I read about this when it first came out. From my memory of a few years back, my first impression of this Fed Guideline is to be able to discriminate against women in certain jobs. It was some years ago, but there was some lawsuit I vaguely remember where a chemical company was trying to not hire women of child bearing age due to the dangers working with manufacturing their product. By considering all women under 55 or whatever age is decided upon, then these women might very well be excluded from dangerous (read: company not complying with safe working conditions and doesn't want to fight workers' comp claims) jobs, those frequently paying decent wages. Just a legal loophole to discriminate. Any one remember this?

24. This fits with everything else going on
Oppose sex education UNLESS it is abstinence only (and fill the classes full of misinformation)...
Work overtime to make abortion inaccessible ...
Work to make contraception unavailable (contraception smacks of abortion, you know)...

Yep, now the women are the appropriate powerless baby machines that we apparently want in this country.

And for all you young women who got the degrees in chemical engineering--chemistry-- ooops, I guess you won't be allowed to have JOBS after all. Could be harmful to that potential fetus you might someday be carrying.

Hello?? Anyone out there paying attention in Main Steam Media Land or are we all too busy covering the arrival of Angelina's baby?

It's all about power and making sure women don't have it.

:grr:  :banghead:
