I wasn't going to post this here because I'm not a speech writer, but one of the churches in Detroit asked if someone from Veterans for Peace could be a guest speaker for their Memorial Day Service yesterday. Anyway, here's my notes from it (though I didn't exactly read it as written).
http://www.ideamouth.com/memorialday.htmApologies for anyone who already read my journals from the gulf march, some was taken directly from there so it's a little repetitive, and also some apologies to Stan are in order because I quoted him extensively without his permission.
Vets for Peace marched in our local parade this morning. Support to jeers ratio was good, maybe 50 to 1, which was remarkable since our lead car that we marched behind had the I have a Dream posters taped to it with Bush and Cheney shown behind bars. I felt bad about that, it doesn't seem like the memorial day parade is the right place for that. But then as I was walking back I saw the Candice Miller (R) "STAY THE COURSE" float, and thought well hell, if they get to politicize it, so should we. So my guilt left.
It was very disturbing that right behind Vets for Peace was a group of young kids, 10? 12? I'm not sure of their ages, dressed up in mini combat gear and camo, some kind of ultra junior ROTC group, being prepped so young to become the next generation of fodder.
