1. Does this only affect veterans discharged after 1975?
It potentially affects all veterans who were discharged after 1975, which is when VA automated its records systems and began regular input of information received from the Department of Defense on all separating veterans.

When VA automated its records systems, VA also input data from all historical claimant records that had been manually maintained by the agency. This data loss therefore also potentially affects all veterans who have ever filed a claim for VA disability compensation, pension, or education benefits, or who have (or had) a VA insurance policy – no matter when the claim was filed or when they were discharged. These veterans would be included even if their claim was denied or they are not currently receiving benefits.

We urge all veterans to be extra vigilant and monitor their financial accounts.

2. What do you mean by suspicious activity?
Suspicious activities could include the following:

Inquiries from companies you haven't contacted or done business with
Purchases or charges on your accounts you didn't make
New accounts you didn't open or changes to existing accounts you didn't make
Bills that don't arrive as expected
Unexpected credit cards or account statements
Denials of credit for no apparent reason
Calls or letters about purchases you didn't make

3. This is just so outrageous.
All my data has been stolen by a bunch of crooks and you can bet they are going to sell it. No doubt in my mind. If you can not trust DoD to protect privacy data, how in hell are we suppose to trust them with classified information? This country does not know how to govern anymore or even how to run a functional administrative office.

4. It is outrageous...
And the outrage will build up to the boiling point very quickly, when the bills start to come in. If the politicians in Washington think the Vets were pissed off before, wait until the crooks start stealing from them. Out of all the stupid things this administration has had happen on their watch, I think this is the most disgusting thing yet.

I'd be lying, if I said I wasn't totally pissed about this! Our "Faith Based" politicians and their Crony Bean Counters are the ones who should pay for this, not the veterans. We served and protected America, but America's "leaders" have totally failed to protect us.

5. I understand that the Def. Dept. was
warned 5 years ago about the record security problem. Apparently, the admin would rather put money into monitoring our phones, emails and library records than to spend the money necessary to protect our service records..

7. You have paranoid nut cases in the highest offices of our ...
government.

Afraid to serve in our wars in the past and still cowards to this day. If they weren't afraid of the American people, why would the spy on us? Dangerous, inept, greedy, COWARDS!
