NYT ad space update for open letter to Gore. $150,000 duckets!
So, it looks like there's a little interst in drafting Al to run...

But $150K for the ad space...
:wow:

Any professional sales negotiators out there wanna talk to the sales rep on our behalf?

FYI - I asked for full page ad, black and white, first Sunday after the mid terms.

1. I'd imagine for that kind of money...
there must be more efficient ways of getting the message out.

5. Have you checked any other periodicals?
Magazines are probably more likely to be more costly but you never know. Shop around.

4. Don't know...didn't ask...thought that Sunday would have the most impact.
I'll see what the Wednesday after mid terms goes for.

11. Well, just saying, if we can raise, let's say 50K and a wednesday ad costs
50K, then we can still do this. If we raise 50k and the rate is 150k, then we have nothing. That's what I'm thinking. Nice to have all the options on the table.

3. Not sure they're going to budge on that rate
Unless you're a regular valued advertisier the sales reps aren't going to have much sympathy about the price.

15. They might want to have Al's baby
but they still have sales quotas to meet.

6. If we can raise that much money, we can do something
much more worthwhile with it, and just write him a letter.

In Gore's name, maybe?

Don't go an give the Times that much money.

People are starving out there.

18. We could tell him exactly what we did.
Dear Al,

We raised $150K in an effort to get the message to you that your country needs you. We were going to run a full-page ad in the NY Times.

But then, when we realized what we had just done, we decided to give it to <blank>. In your name.

Thank you, Al.

20. i bet that would speak much louder than even a ny times ad
Edited on Fri May-19-06 04:21 PM by faithnotgreed
very well said bullgoose - i had the same initial response as you
thank you for saying it

HIGHLY recommend everyone consider this alternative

on edit: and your response above also is right on
people and animals are in dire straights all over this world

and i understand completely that people want al gore to run (i have voiced my strong approval of this idea as well) but there are definitely options to get this message out to him
the way the online community works - and the way al is with technology - he very well knows that the roar is beginning for him

12. all we need is 1500 people to give $100 bucks. I think we can do this.
The damn thing may cost $150K but an ad like that in the NYT will come back to the Gore cause in spades. Don;t you think?

14. Since the media love to pick our candidates
why don't we do the same. Instead of the letter just buy a banner ad(1/4 page or less) Saying "Gore for President 2008" I don't know if they would run it being it's unofficial but if they did it would definitely get the message moving once they called Al to confirm or deny. Then when they talk to us we can say that we're drafting the best man for the job. The man who should have the job now.

16. I think Blockbusters letter is poignant and attention getting...
and sign it with a mighty list of contributers to the cause. A full page ad would have all the talking heads yapping. Good return for sure.
