Why must the Anthem be in English when church services can be in Spanish?
Edited on Fri May-19-06 01:48 PM by T Roosevelt
I was coming home today and passed a church that had bilingual services. Why isn't anybody complaining about that? And yet there's a big stink over having the National Anthem be English only! Huh?

On edit: :sarcasm:

3. Well, we'll put a stop to that, too.
If English was good enough for Jesus, it should be good enough for them, too.

5. We have them around here too!
BIG sign letting everyone know about it. There's also a few churches marketing Korean services with *GASP* Korean writing on the sign!

BTW, my County/District is a Con stronghold.

7. Because The Anthem Is "National" And The Churches (so far)Aren't
but it is a silly distinction isn't it.

The Churches can be in Spanish because they are trying to convert them from Catholicism (if they weren't Catholic Churches)

There are Vietnamese, Korean, and Laotian services in addition to Spanish language services where I live.

An interesting fact about the Anglican Communion, which includes the US Episcopal Church, is that the fastest growing and soon the largest population of Anglicans will be in Africa-not England.

Christianity is changing globally.

As fewer and fewer English speaking Americans go to Church, they find that other nationalities are more likely to attend so they aim towards them.

11. Hey, instead of worrying about...
...singing the "Star Spangled Banner" in English or Spanish - let's translate the Bill of Rights into Spanish (or Farsi, or Hmoung, or Creole, etc.) for true depth of meaning!

15. Henceforth and hereafter, all church services
Shall be in English. Specifically, the King's English. More specifically, King James English, ca. 1611.

Or thou shalt be smitten mightily.

16. Not at my church
There was a big uproar in my Catholic parish (I say "my" - I am an atheist, ex-Catholic) a couple of years back when the Mexican population of the East Texas town I am from reached a critical mass and they changed one of the three Sunday masses to Spanish. BIG UPROAR.

18. Well, as long as we are at it, why not restrict the National Anthem to
Anglo-Saxon?

After all, English as we know is really more French and Latin than the native language of the island of Britain.

Yet we don't here anyone demanding that we sing the anthem in the language of Beowulf, do we? Why do these people hate the English language, huh? HUH!?!?

:sarcasm:
