and then the person named is indicted.

There's absolutely no indication in this matter that any indictments were handed down, or that anything was sealed. There's no indication that anything happened, so that's all that anyone knows.

No one knows anything.

Indictments of the nature that would have involved Rove are served immediately. The notion of working a plea doesn't enter into it until later in the process. That's why the whole law firm story was patently untrue on its face. As was the 15 hour session at defense counsel's office - that would never happen. As was the notion of "getting affairs in order," which is language a non-lawyer might think would apply in such a matter, but he would be wrong.

Remember how Scooter Libby was handled?

Well, that's how it works. It's that simple and cut and dried - and a matter of public record.

anything. We can read what they have to say and believe it or not, since it's 'free' both monetarily and in terms of the decision we make to avail of the information they provide. I'm not paying Will Pitt anything, but he very generously has shared his excellent writing skills with us for a long time, and has done much for the cause of saving this country. I don't know him personally and disagree with his posts at times, but when I have done as much as he has, and if I ever were in the position to hire him to do a job for me, then I'll feel I have the right to demand that he explain himself to me. Otherwise, no, he doesn't owe me or anyone else who isn't paying him, anything, imo.

Otoh, we DO pay this administration and Karl Rove and yet, there are more outraged posts slamming people who have been on our side and sharing information with us, most of the time getting it right, than there are on the:

Illegal Domestic Spying issue
The daily body count in Bush's illegal war and the continued hiding of the bodies of our troops.
The emerging scandal related to Duke Cunninghan and how the war profiteers spent OUR money
The nomination Gen. Hayden as head of the CIA when we know what he is responsible for.
The Budget which once again, will steal from the poor to feed the rich.
Bush is still torturing people as the American people yawn
There is a trial of some spies in the Pentagon, another story covered up they MSM.

So much to be outraged over ~


I could go on, but I think some people's outrage is a bit misdirected. After all, no matter whether Leopold was right or wrong, it will not be earth shattering, will it? So, it's difficult to understand the outrage ~

I will continue to support the independent media including TO which has always been a reliable source when the MSM chose to lie to the American people or withhold stories such as the NSA Domestic Spying story and the Downing St. Memo story. Who's to say they're not wittholding this one also?

So to your question 'somebody should be doing some GOD DAMNED 'splaining about now, DONT CHA THINK????' The answer is YES and it should be our CONGRESS doing the explaining. As for one little news outlet that may or may not have gotten a story wrong, well, it's just not that important in the scheme of things, imo.

I knew nothing about this guy, but after some of his "supporters" started beating me up because, without even mentioning the website in question OR the author of the piece, I noted that Tweety broke the story of an upcoming indictment on the previous Friday, they came after me like I was the enemy. Set off a few alarm bells, so I started looking around. He does not inspire confidence, to put it politely.

I am getting disheartened, yes. I re-read the Ash update and I am still willing to wait. Why? Because they have not pulled the story and offered a retraction yet. When they do, I will go from there. Leopold does not (from Ash's update) appear to be in charge of this story anymore, so for me it transcends his history - his sources (lying or not) are now being contacted by Ash or others at TruthOut directly. So - they are duping the entire staff, if that is what they are indeed doing. Also, Leopold has not outed them yet - which I believe the editors at TO would make him do (as part of the deal he made with his sources, according to the article).

Posters who are constantly accused of being cruel - it is because you are, whether you realize it or not. If you are called on meanness more than 5x, you might want to reread your posts. When things are typed, tone is applied by the reader. Keep that in mind.

The last thread was a nice one - some Pro-Indictment people were offering apologies, some Anti-Indictment people were comforting instead of lording the sadness over the others. Then a couple of posters showed up and pissed on the entire thing. It really sucked.

Anyhoo - I felt the need to insert a joke and my un-asked for opinion.

when anger is really driving what gets written, dontcha know? Passive-aggressive has a way of surfacing, no matter how hard you try to keep it down.

It's rough when a letdown is so absolute and final and without recourse. It's even rougher when the perpetrators won't explain, disappear, hide out, and leave the believers holding their own empty bags. It's hard to have your faith busted up like that, and it's even harder to have to face the people who tried to explain the reality of what was going on, having to face the blindness and rage that drove some people even deeper into their foxholes of denial and refusal to choose reality and truth.

That's how it's done. You're not allowed counsel inside the grand jury room. You can go outside and confer with counsel - after every question, if you want - but you go in there alone.

I've had clients called back to testify before grand juries many times. None were ever indicted. So the number of times one appears before the same or different grand juries is irrelevant to the matter of being indicted. Sometimes it's simply a matter of a grand juror not being able to read his or her notes and needing clarification.

That's how it works.

I say that we all chip in and register "whereisfitz.com" so we know where he is at all times and assign someone to follow him around. We'll need one person in Chicago and one in DC. Besides, all Fitz needs is a podium for an announcment, and you'll hear of a press conference before he gets there.

Note to H20Man:
in the last thread you identified Will as an editor at TO. I believe he is only a writer there so source-checking is not his responsibility. Its my impression that he was informed about JL's sources, took the man's word for it, and stood by his colleague in solidarity when under attack.

I admire Will for his loyalty but I hope that he, as well as many of us, learn from this disgraceful experience. Will is a fine writer and I suspect he is hard at work writing one of his best essays ever. The reputations of Marc Ash and Leopold, OTOH, will long suffer over this.

Those of us who have fought for justice over many long years and decades are too well acquainted with disappointment. It comes with the territory. We are too often let down by society, by the people we try to help, and by ourselves. We expect to be misled by the "establishment" but we hold our side to a higher standard. None of it would be as painful if we didn't care so deeply. But we will stick to our ideals and our high standards. We are compassionate and believe in truth, redemption, and forgiveness.

Nothing going on. I was told by several journalists who were down at the courthouse that the Grand Jury was not meeting today. Of course, the GJ may be meeting at the undisclosed location (as VP Cheney is out of town and not using it today...)
