DVD promoted Christ to Jews as the Messiah (sent to 80,000 homes)
http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2006/05/18/news-cammoshiach-05-18.html
Kiryas Joel - The DVD that came in the mail Saturday certainly looked enticing for Orthodox Jewish families.

The package was written in Hebrew; it had a disc tucked inside with a drawing of a robed, Old Testament figure blowing a ram's horn. Anyone who played the DVD found a smoothly produced recreation of biblical stories with a voice-over in the familiar cadences of Yiddish.

But the DVD, which was recently sent to about 80,0000 households throughout Kiryas Joel and other Orthodox communities in New York and New Jersey, carried an unexpected message for intensely religious Jews awaiting the arrival of the Messiah:

He already came.

"our way of worshipping an unprovable entity is better than yours."

How silly....

Believe in what you want, and let others believe in what they want. Spirituality is supposed to be a personally positive thing.

4. *slow sarcastic loud clap*
Hilarious. I need to talk to my neighbor, who is an ultra-orthodox, and see if he got one. I'd love to hear his impression of it. He's a pretty funny guy.

The people who sent it though, have some balls. Talk about a hard nut to crack. That'd be like a bunch of hard core fundamentalist christians getting a DVD trying to convince them that Jesus wasn't the messiah but just a prophet whose words were corrupted, and that Mohammed was the prophet who followed them and helped correct the errors people had falsely put down as Jesus' word.

I wonder how that'd go over, particularly if it was packaged in a way that the Fundies put their kids down in front of the Television to watch it, who came back afterwards and started asking questions about why people corrupted the words of Jesus, and why they don't have a koran in the house. I'd love to see that.

6. That's pretty much what National Geographic cable channel did recently.
They had a series, "Science of the Bible" (I think the title was), where they told of who Jesus was, what he actually probably did, what he was probably like and what happened to him, and how years later the idea of his "divinity" was developed and by who.

I'm not a Christian but in my opinion a Christian watching that would surely have to question their beliefs.

7. Yeah but that's on television
Heck channel 5 here in Pittsburgh on my cable system is all christian all the time.

They didn't package up a DVD, pretend it was a great informative viewing for fundamentalist christians, when really it was there to make them question their beliefs, and then deliver it to 80,000 homes for free.

Heh. That got another laugh from me. Can't wait to talk to my orthodox friend.

10. Apocolypse. They want us Jews to convert to Christianity and
move back to Israel. Then their world will be complete.
In general we Jews get pretty creeped out by the "Jews for Jesus" movement. We don't try to get Christians to convert to Judaism. However, the nutbag religious Jews often try to get the mainstream Jews to become ultrareligous and join their close knit communities.

12. Just another car added to the Hell Express
In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, it very plainly says that Jesus won't return until the Jews have converted to Christianity.

The Bible also says that not everyone who proclaims for the Lord is going to heaven--IOW, if you're a bad person it doesn't matter how many Chick Tracts you pass out or how many tactical nuclear weapons your Dear Leader drops on Iran.

I figure what's gonna happen is they'll work all their lives to convince Jesus to come back and he'll send them to hell for destroying his message.

14. "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" is its official name
The popular name is the "Book of Revelation." Or the "Book of Revelations," although that's not right.

It's got a new name, though: Prophecies of the Bush 43 Administration.
