A few of my favorite stickies from GrovelBot's Big Board
Edited on Fri May-19-06 08:55 AM by Skinner
I've been having a blast reading the stickies that DUers have been posting on GrovelBot's Big Board during this week's fund drive. There are so many great ones that I can't post all of them. Here are a few of my favorites (I apologize that I did not grab the links):

Remembering our friends...

On politics...

War and peace...

Democratic Underground...

Stickies about stickies...

A Lounge tribute to Samuel L. Jackson...

I don't know what this is, but I like it...

Making you feel very small and insignificant...

Pretty flowers...

Just plain hilarious...

Some good advice from a wise man...

To post some stickies yourself, just donate to DU.

FYI: A number of people have asked about this: When you donate, you get a sticky credit that you can use at any time. You don't have to post your sticky when you donate.

Thanks to everyone who has donated!

20. Very cute little creatures, but from my granddaughter's experience
they don't make really good pets unless you are willing to spend quite a bit of time and effort. They are nocturnal, require a special diet and their cages can smell really bad without constant attention. The ones she had were quite tame and would tolerate being handled, but they are not affectionate towards humans.

23. They require a lot of attention
The little guys have been known to die of loneliness. They need someone to bond to either a human who is around them a lot or another glider.
And they do stink bad.

I've known people who had them and decided they were not for me. The hedgehogs I had smelled bad enough and I knew I could not spend the time with them that they needed.

26. Sounds like my dog, except for the smelly part, LOL!
He's a Brussels Griffon, known as "velcro dogs," and they require constant attention, too. The reason I mention him, is that his detractors have noted his monkey-like qualities. I think he's beautiful, and the little monkey on the sticky is just so darn cute!:loveya:

And my little dog is on my sig, so nobody can miss him.:-)

6. My favorite part was clicking on the links - someone posted two names
Edited on Fri May-19-06 09:12 AM by FLDem5
and it linked to a photo of their cats (I can only assume those two names were theirs).

There were also links to some cool websites I never would have visited otherwise. One sold these great handmade tote bags - I think might get one.

Oh - and one led to a website of Hubble images - one is my background right now- The Sombrero Galaxy)

But I especially liked the animal pix, Free Barney, LOL, and sleeping Romeo. Very cute.:loveya:

But my all-time favorite has to be the one of O.J. proposing to CatWoman! That one made me laugh out loud!

9. Submit your stickies again.
And when you do, make sure you click the botton after the confirmation screen. Some people are forgetting to do that.

They will show up immediately on the big board when you submit them.

14. I love that Bush Stamp..Spit on both sides. HA

And the stage1 through Stage5 is funny too.

As I mentioned in that email I sent you, an ALT tag for the image postings, would add more value to the page as a high traffic "links" page for DU web site owners who would like to improve their standings in the search engines. A link that has the keywords they want to be found for, in that Alt Image tag, is worth $$$...It becomes a mini-banner add, sort of.

Webmasters, and SEO's should know what I mean.

30. Nope, it wasn't public, but he was on DU, at the time, as always.
Edited on Fri May-19-06 11:44 AM by Rhiannon12866
His poor mother found him slumped over his computer, and she posted the news to DU, under his name, including her phone number, which the admins quickly deleted. The poor lady was unfamiliar with the internets, just knew that Scott was really dedicated to DU.:-(

It was a pulmonary embolism, very sudden and unexpected, since I think he was only 37, but he was also a big guy, with an even bigger heart. And several DU members traveled to his funeral, to support his mom, and kept in touch with her. Mama Khephra joined DU under her own name and was with us for quite awhile. I haven't seen her lately, but this was a huge event on DU, and I have no doubt that the support that his mother received here was a great comfort to her, and probably still is.:-)

Khephra was one of the most prolific, plugged-in and respected DU members, ever, and is still very much missed, though it's been over a year.:-(

on edit: This thread explains a great deal. Khephra and Will Pitt were good friends, so Will was very involved with what happened and was especially affected by Khephra's sudden death.;(

A message from Khephra's mom

I am continually impressed with the compassion and kindness that can be found here, apart from the sharing of knowledge and information that is the real purpose of this site.:-)

And I just edited my previous post to include an archived thread that explains much of what happened. This was the worst of times on DU, but one in which DUers showed their best.O8)

I remember Andy, as well, and also considered him a friend and miss him still. But your relationship was special, since you were one of his oldest friends here and one of his most loyal supporters. And one thread that sticks in my mind was one that you posted together, long ago, on DU.1, when you were visiting him and the fun that you were having together was obvious. I miss those days and I miss Andy.;(

That was a wonderful tribute and a great sticky.:yourock:

48. I remember that thread well, Rhiannon....
Andy always spoke very fondly of you. And, like you, I really miss him.

He spent Christmas of 2004 with my family, and it was wonderful having him here. The entire family (even the Republicans!!!) really liked him. Sadly, it was his last Christmas and I know he would have like to spend it with his partner. But, as he was working in Ohio at the time, he decided to visit Chicago, because it was a lot closer than Seattle or his family in Texas.

He was here a very short time...two nights only and really 1 1/2 days. Happily, the drive to my sister's house on Christmas Day took us down Lake Shore Drive and through downtown, so he got to see a lot of the good sights. As well as some neighborhoods.

Just reading this thread again made me smile, as it did when I originally read it.:D

And thank you for sharing your remembrances of Andy with me. He was one of my very first friends on DU and he was always so kind to me. He even wrote to the head of Subway when I told him that the Subway in Saratoga, NY, no longer offered the particular kind of sub that I always got there, LOL! He was such a special person and became a force to be reckoned with while he was with us on DU. I feel fortunate to have known him, even if it was just on DU. And still miss him, too.;(
