1.  The reward is the act of struggle itself
It is wrong to expect a reward for your struggles. The reward is the act of struggle itself, not what you win. Even though you can't expect to defeat the absurdity of the world, you must make that attempt. That's morality, that's religion. That's art. That's life.

40. 'Cops of the World' could have been written last night!”
:hi:

Cops of the World

Come, get out of the way, boys
Quick, get out of the way
You'd better watch what you say, boys
Better watch what you say
We've rammed in your harbor and tied to your port
And our pistols are hungry and our tempers are short
So bring your daughters around to the port
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

We pick and choose as please, boys
Pick and choose as please
You'd best get down on your knees, boys
Best get down on your knees
We're hairy and horny and ready to shack
We don't care if you're yellow or black
Just take off your clothes and lie down on your back
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

Our boots are needing a shine, boys
Boots are needing a shine
But our Coca-cola is fine, boys
Coca-cola is fine
We've got to protect all our citizens fair
So we'll send a battalion for everyone there
And maybe we'll leave in a couple of years
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

Dump the reds in a pile, boys
Dump the reds in a pile
You'd better wipe of that smile, boys
Better wipe off that smile
We'll spit through the streets of the cities we wreck
We'll find you a leader that you can't elect
Those treaties we sighned were a pain in the neck
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

Clean the johns with a rag, boys
Clean the johns with a rag
If you like you can use your flag, boys
If you like you can use your flag
We've got too much money we're looking for toys
And guns will be guns and boys will be boys
But we'll gladly pay for all we destroy
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

Please stay off of the grass, boys
Please stay off of the grass
Here's a kick in the ass, boys
Here's a kick in the ass
We'll smash down your doors, we don't bother to knock
We've done it before, so why all the shock?
We're the biggest and toughest kids on the block
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

When we butchered your son, boys
When we butchered your son
Have a stick of our gum, boys
Have a stick of our buble-gum
We own half the world, oh say can you see
The name for our profits is democracy
So, like it or not, you will have to be free
'Cause we're the Cops of the World, boys
We're the Cops of the World

- Phil Ochs

119. For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,

When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

4. Has it been 24 business hours yet?
And did you hear Wayne Masden says his sources tell him that yesterday Atty Gen Gonzales rolled up to the GJ courthouse in a limo and was personally told by the GJ that they intend to indict Rove tomorrow??????

Yeah, it's true.

Now some people say this is bullshit because Gonzales recused himself from the entire case, and anyway there's no procedure where a GJ has to personally inform the AG of an impending indictment. And that DoJ denies Gonzales was anywhere near that courthouse yesterday.

But I am a believer because I believe in what I believe.

And I believe Rove was indicted last Friday and will be again tomorrow, because that is what I believe.

I mean -- here are two guys who bust chops to get to the the truth, and then to report the truth to the rest of us, and how do some of us treat them??

Like the worst liars in human history!!

Have we all forgotten that George W. Bush and his gang of thugs and his entire cabal regime spread NOTHING -- NOTHING!!! -- but lies, deceit, and misinformation!!

It's just SO UNFAIR -- and so hurtful -- to see William Pitt and Jason Leopold pilloried this way!!

We should be going after Bush, Rove, Rummy, Rice, and ALL the rest of those reptiles (and I apologize to real reptiles for the comparison).

We should NOT be attacking Pitt and Leopold!!

It truly makes me sick and it truly saddens my heart!!

I don't see why we're obliged to defend a lie just cause it's coming from someone on our side of the aisle. That's the kind of absolutist, mindless rhetoric that the Bushies use. "My country, right or wrong." "I support BUSH & am sure he's telling us the truth about the NSA program, & I don't want to hear any other facts," "So what about WMD's, CLINTON lied all the time," etc.

Never, ever
Except always. News outlets always have to deal w/false or incorrect stories & they usually just apoogize & run a correction. Why hasn't TruthOut rescinded this story already? Everyone makes mistakes, but I don't understand why they first fiercely defended the story (adding more "clarifications") & then disappeared completely. This probably wouldn't have become so silly if they'd just rescinded the story 5 days ago. The stalling is doing almost as much harm as the story, IMO.

90. I've Heard That Sometimes Journalists Get Jealous
I've heard that sometimes journalists get jealous of the accomplishments of other journalists.

Sometimes journalists who take risks and who speak the TRUTH to power engender jealously on the part of other journalists.

I understand that sometimes journalists who harbor jealously try to tear down and personally villify journalists who speak the TRUTH TO POWER.

It's just what I have heard.

It is BECAUSE journalism is so important to me that I have such disdain for shady characters as Leopold who mock the institution by printing fabrications, plagiarized articles. It makes the entire profession look bad when folks such as Leopold are given so much publicity for shoddy and misleading journalism.

That, my friend, is my motivation for my continued vitriol toward Leopold.

...but now I'm having some doubts. I still believe Rove will eventually be indicted, I'm just not sure if we'll hear about it today.

I was thinking back to before the Libby indictment and I remember a few days before the announcement, people were reporting seeing Fitzgerald here and there every day for about a week! Now maybe that was due to the fact that the GJ was getting ready to expire or maybe not. But I have to wonder why we haven't seen the same kind of Fitz activity this time.

I don't have any facts to base this on.........it's just a feeling right now.

This is the problem with this story. The Pitt groupies are trying to spin it as if Rove is ever indicted, the story is write.

The story was written in the past tense, stating the indictment had occurred. In Leopold's world, the Karl Rove who appeared on Capitol Hill on Wednesday was a man under indictment.

Or are you so dillusioned as to think that the only bad people are republicans and anyone who is a democrat can do no wrong?

Answer my question, please. Have you read the resume of Leopold? Do you know where he was fired from and why? If not, do a little research before you hitch your wagon to that "star." If you have, how can you support so blindly someone who has done such unethical things?

96. I Know That
I know that Democrats can (sometimes and VERY rarely) do wrong.

Look at Joe Lieberman. Or even (sob!) Bill Clinton, when he signed that terrible Welfare "Reform" Bill.

And I would never judge someone because of any mistakes of thier past!

Who has not made mistakes??!!

I have!!

But would I want to be judged now because of mistakes I have made in the past??

Would YOU?

look exactly like a mistake you are making now, you are telling me that isn't relevant. Is someone is a drug addict in the past, and you find a heroine kit in their car, are you not going to think back to the past drug addiction? Seriously.

not to judge someone because of mistakes of the past.

If someone is a drug addict in the past (God, I hate THAT comparison!!!!!), and you find heroin in their car, I would NOT jump to the immeidate conclusion that that person was using heroin!

It's probably a "natural" conclusion to come to -- BUT IT COULD BE WRONG, and You COULD be doing the person a GRAVE misjustice by LEAPING to an unfounded CONCLUSION!!!

Finding the "former" drug addict in the car with the heroin, with the needle in their arm, and trying to sell everyone on the idea they're not doing heroin.

Oh, he was just taking his own blood samples.

Or, he wasn't actually doing heroin, it just looks like it. Don't jump to conclusions.

Really.

BTW, if Jason Leopold is reading any of this, get some help. We won't think worse of you. We will admire your courage to seek a path of healing.

Understand that we can support the left and Jason Leopold's article can still be wrong.

I'm really sorry Will Pitt hooked his cart to Leopold; he's going to have to take responsiblity for that and deal with it.

You can't just give people a pass because they're "on our side." If we do, then we're hypocrites and we should just let the Bush administration have a pass as well.

You can't have it both ways.

15. Here's the plan for Friday, May 19th
I have to go stake out all the airports and bus stations and rental car counters.

You know, just in case.

I also am carrying a large poster-sized glossy picture that says "Have you seen this man?"

If he's in D.C. I'll find him.

Ayep, yep, yep.

Fitz IS a legal U.S. citizen, isn't he?

'Cause if not, well, I just don't have the time for the whole "border" thing.

That would take way longer than 24 business hours.

Or maybe I'll just stay here.

In my youth, when one of the mothers in the neighborhood wanted to call their kid they would just scream real loud out the front door. That might work.

"FITZ-EEEEEEEEEE!!!"

33. A possibility discussed at Talk Left
Posted by jk
May 19, 2006 05:53 AM

There is a chance, albeit small and probably unlikely, that Rove changed his mind and decided to accept the plea deal (of course assuming the original story was true). That may be why nothing has (and will not) happen this week. Part of the agreement from Fitzgerald's end may be that he does not announce the indictment/deal publicly. TL had mentioned this as a possibility in the past.

If true, this raises two questions: shouldn't rove resign if he has accepted a plea deal? and is this something that somebody, such as leopold, would have reported? I don't know. Just putting this possibility out there.

44. Yes, makes sense, but
let's say, for the purposes of discussion, that there is some sticking point, some bit of evidence that Rove offered that Fitz wants to verify before finalizing a deal that is holding up the whole works. Then technically there would be no "deal" yet and no reason not to conduct business as usual.

Since we are all just speculating, this scenario doesn't seem to me to be any more bizarre than some of the other's I've heard.

59. That's when you "resign to spend time with your family"
Look...Rove wants a life after these 8 years. There are millions to be paid on the speaking circuit. His memoirs need to be written. FoxNews needs commentators.

And if he has been secretly working for the White House while in the midst of selling them out, he's done. You can be indicted. You can even cop a plea and resign. But you simply cannot keep working while being indicted or having copped a plea.

110. two big problems w/ that theory
1. The idea of a secret plea is absurd. Why would Fitz go for that?

2. Rove would still resign if he accepted a plea

Talkleft has been pretty balanced covering the Leopold story, but they are getting close to jumping the shark with this fairy tale speculation.

Seriously, I don't take them seriously after they did that.. A lot of their stories seem flatly impossible, like they have robot flies on the wall in every room of the White House. They write like they live under Bush's bed, and tho they ARE the gang that can't shoot straight, there's never been a more secretive administration I think in the White House, hell, they're basically making CIA guys take LOYALTY OATHS now, and getting the Goods with the NSA on THEIR OWN MEDIA.. Corporate controlled, but they all have Fax machines that glow Cherry RED the minute Rove has a Plan..

is going after Truthout on this. Pitt wrote a scathing article about Thompson who once attacked Clinton for sleeping around and Thompson fired back with some really good points. Thompson goes after both sides hard which I admire but some here don't like the fact that he attacked a Democrat. Thompson is probably more Republican than Democrat but I am cool with that as long as he has is fair in the way he goes after each side. I like Will Pitt but I thought his article questioning Thompson's integrity went too far.

Or at least hide out in the Lounge. I believed in Jason and Will 100%. Especially Will. His work with Trouthout has been unblemished. I hope the truth comes out that Rove is indicted. But if Rove was not indeed indicted on May 12th, then Will made a mistake putting Leopold's story on Truthout. But everyone makes mistakes. But there are plenty of people here ready to figuratively, if not literally, crucify Will for that. And reading the attacks is getting tiresome.

A DUer even e-mailed me this link, saying how much of a laughingstock we are for believing Leopold's story. Well I will am not a laughingstock. I believe Fitz will do the right thing and indict Rove. But as long as emotions and ridicule run high here, I will take a break.

Peace to all.

102. Insiders: Richard Armitage Will NOT Be Indicted
Edited on Fri May-19-06 09:19 AM by kpete
Insiders: Richard Armitage Will NOT Be Indicted

Bobby Ray Inman's claims are "BS", claimed one very prominent Washington insider after reading TWN's report on Inman's claim that Richard Armitage would be indicted in the Valerie Plame Wilson outing probe.

Another well-placed insider who has interacted directly with many of the key personalities involved in the investigation wrote this to me:

I'm sure Inman is wrong on Armitage. But I am also sure we'll hear more about Armitage's direct involvement. I am additionally sure we will hear about Armitage as a witness against Rove if he is indicted.

Another person whom I can't identify but has direct knowledge of the direction of Fitzgerald's investigation as it pertains to Armitage and Rove stated that what Inman claims "is not the case". This source offered further that one "would be on 100 percent solid ground" with the claim that Armitage would NOT be indicted.

Another person with deep knowledge about this investigation called to say that Fitzgerald seems to have abandoned any interest in securing indictments regarding the "outing" of Plame and has invested his efforts in challenging the "white collar cover-ups" involved. According to this source, the information provided by Richard Armitage is -- more than any other information -- what has put Karl Rove at major risk of indictment.

I felt that these other insider perspectives are important as they are so uniformly consistent that Inman's claims are wrong, that Armitage made mistakes and immediately owned up to them, that Armitage has been completely forthcoming in the investigation, and that Karl Rove remains a prime indictment target for Patrick Fitzgerald.

108. True.
Duers may recall last year, in "The Unknown Soldier," I explained how the OVP/WHIG would attempt to blame Dick for the leak.

What if Rove is not indicted - ever?

The cat will never trust you again.

And then, you know what the cat will become?

That's right.

WHY NO RICE ever mentioned? I mean we've both spent a LOT of time researching all this and she (as I explained further down thread) was RIGHT there IN the WHIG group (who should ALL be dragged off to the Hague), on the Plane in Africa with the MEMO, talking to a gaggle of reporters about it, and the BOSS of ALL these lower scumbags THEN..

I can see Ari rolling over for Fitz, he read the memo too

No dirty rice for Fitz?

122. Armitage was close enough to know what was going on
and kept far enough away to stay out of the risk zone on this one. I hope he is one of the many ways they take PigBoy down, Armitage knows plenty..

Here's my question.

WHERE THE HELL IS THE INDICTMENT ON CONDOLIESA RICE? NO one mentions her, NO ONE, and yet SHE was the Boss of ALL of these people. She was on that Plane in Africa with the Memo from Grossman handed to Powell, which while stamped "TOP SECRET American EYES only" Was read by TONS of people including Ari Fleicsher..

BOTH ARI and RICE made comments the next day at a "gaggle", THEY KNEW, maybe Ari is smart enough to Roll over, but WHY IS RICE NEVER Mentioned? It really pisses me off as I have a feeling she's being groomed for a VEEP position ala the magic of Diebold.. more REpig Coupe stuff, first woman, first Black, AND a repig..

Anyone answer that one, why no Dirty Rice?

That there are ZERO leaks coming from Fitz's office. None, nada, zippo, zilch.

Anything else is pure speculation and third hand rumors.

105. update expected today..?
tucked into an email i rec'd from TO for Gitmo article...

FOCUS | UN: US Should Close Gitmo Facility
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/051906Z.shtml

"The state party should cease to detain any person at Guantanamo Bay and
close the detention facility," said the UN Committee Against Torture, a
panel of 10 independent experts on adherence to the UN Convention
Against Torture. The United States should also ensure that no one is
detained in secret detention facilities under its control and disclose
the existence of any such places, the report said.

TO will post an update on the Rove indictment story later today.

128. I'd vote for going ahead and lighting it
The angry villagers will need it to ignite their torches tonight when they storm the castle.

Plus, if you have enough hot dogs, you want want to put out a nice buffet for them. Storming castles makes angry villagers work up a hell of an appetite, I hear.

Maybe some sauerkraut, nice brown mustard, relish - any kind, really - and don't forget the celery salt. They love celery salt on their hot dogs, those angry villagers.

For the Communists among them, sure, ketchup.

I'll bring the Vidalia onions, all chopped.

Oh, and let's have the firehoses ready, When the angry villagers finally comprehend how badly they've been duped - I'm not sure this will ever actually happen - they'll need hosing down. We can probably steam the hot dogs over the vapors that will arise from their overheated and overtaxed bodies and minds.

Energy-efficient, that's what this affair could turn out to be.

Now, about this indictment that's been sitting around for a week..........................
