CNN: B*sh got "border bounce" in new poll? (+ 2%)
Edited on Fri May-19-06 07:03 AM by npincus
Did anyone see this yesterday? I just caught the end. Chimpy approval is up 2 points in a new poll, but I didn't catch the name of the poll. CNN was attributing the bounce to (perhaps) response to Chimpy's immigration speech the other nite.

Which poll were they referring to?

2. 2% is within the margin of error for any poll. Doesn't mean squat.

10. to any rational educate person. But you're dealing with CNN here.
They were ordered to report good news, even if it is manufactured.
Remember the WaPo poll on domestic spying?

5. Hayden will be confirmed - lack of spine plus a shallow "like the guy"
makes him a lock.

But I do not see a bounce until the Senate passes the immigration bill.

16. I believe it was the comprehensive job performance-type poll
Edited on Fri May-19-06 09:32 AM by npincus
and not one specifically about B*sh's immigration proposal. The inference I got from the piece was that there was an increase in approval from the last poll done, and CNN was asking if that might be due to Chimpy's Oval Office Screech. Unfortuantely, I caught the tail-end only... with the bottom-of-the-screen caption reading "Did Bush get 2% 'Border Bounce' in Poll?" (or something like that).

13. It's absolutely stupid
The margin of error for most polls is 3% to 4%, so a 2% difference doesn't mean anything and doesn't require any explanation.

Stock analysts are worse about it; they'll attribute a statistically insignificant change to "positioning for the Fed meeting tomorrow" or "reacting to a stronger than expected consumer confidence index". But pollsters are just as bad.

14. They certainly slipped it in
because they know an instant bounce evaporates over time. The slide is relentless as more people move according to the general mood against Bush. They most certainly do not want to evaluate what is really happening in American public opinion but to keep offering cowardly tidbits of hope to the administration and stay mostly mum on the confidence disaster.

Bounces like these will not stop the downward trend which is longer, stronger and deeper than a crafty immigration pose that gets both sides to help you while fighting among each other. Might I add, the Bush WH cannot help refusing to take advantage, as they have since day one, as they did immediately on 9/11 of the fact they could most certainly cement their hold over the populace by actually: doing something for them, compromising their agenda sensibly, being actually dedicated and competent to the tasks at hand.

They simply cannot stop extremely warping and abusing friends and foes alike, cannot give an inch on the narrow road to giving Bush cronies ruinous control of a destroyed American nation, cannot sustain a pose or a simple job or a bi-partisan effort without getting fatigued, dropping it and simply mining it for more negatives for the world more power for them.

That is not an extreme comment but simple observation of relentless unchanging policy. It is the mind and soul of Cheney that dominates the WH and is ultimately responsible for ultimate lack of competence and credibility but stubbornly sustained focus enabled by escalating raw power. A sane or cynical sensible person could have had it all but all these lazy crooks wanted was to have it all their way by abrogation of illegal power through the Total Lie. That lie is still too big for too many to grasp or everyone would be immediately storming the WH to take them down. The populace and the rest of the Capitol are not there yet. This is more than "disapproval" and that is why the WH is not moved to change its main course, which it can't. That the surest way for the WH to survive and win is to move forward past this the point of no return in TRUE bi-partisan opportunity is to simply continue.

So in thrall to the Total Lie, as is heart and soul the loudest chunk of the MSM, gives the opportunity for "bounces", for cooperation by the Democrats, for collaboration by abused GOP officials and assorted other opportunistic "allies", for buying off the frightened rich powers. Ominously it totally leaves untouched the spying policies which MUST be domestic spying for political purposes added to unspoken blanket of fear East German style to repress dissent, MUST lead to the next war.

The last line of their defense is fear and war and they WILL have it. They almost publicly scoff at "approval" ratings. Some take that for denial or small lying or just talking point spinning. I take it for fact that they discount that as much as they discounted the boundless opportunities of wisdom, competence and bi-partisanship before(leading to failures they sourly brushed off). They may be ticked off or fearful. That leads only to more swiftly stealing more tyrannical powers, not a change of behavior.

So the WH strategy by a second stringer PR schmo is for yet another "charm offensive" media style. This is lazy and ineffectual in concept. Why? because it is secondary, does not signify despite all past failures, all similar half-hearted lies. War is everything. Easy, gut wrenching, chaos streaming vulture food for the carry-on carrion administration. And as far as they can see the Total Lie is unscathed in actual power and actual effect on the American populace.

If Goering said this works every time then Goering is their Prophet. Money is their God. Lying is their
life and war is their salvation. And room at the top of the pyramid in which truth is entombed is smaller than any of their allies think.

Normality, the normal course of opinion shifting, the normal business of necessary affairs and good government, the basic needs and desires of the human race, is on a big time lag to stop these goons racing quickly ahead on the wings of the Total Lie. The issue is not whether the tide against them will rationally, slowly continue, but if it will crash to defeat before they do or whether America will collapse as a whole. No remedy is yet at hand. None certain.

Taking time out of their vacations to deal with legal woes, bad polls or failed policies must be irritating and wearisome to them. One should be afraid that they have indeed been touched too little and given in the mean time even more weapons against the sane world.

A couple of point gain here or there isn't a bounce.
