The new oh-so-helpful government guidelines on how women should take care of their potentially-fertile wombs (you never know when you'll be raped!) and the posts of KyndCulture and others, fostered this rant.
You want to fight for women and/or children? It's actually pretty simple. Here are the basics:
- Equal pay for equal work - Equal opportunity, in law AND in subjective biases - Childcare - Healthcare - Birth control - Family/maternity leave - Programs like WIC - Child support - Equal representation in government
Once we get those things -- which also cut across race and economics -- we can BEGIN to discuss what "rights" the government has over our bodies. (Even then, the answer in my mind remains: NONE. Those just eliminate much of the problem, and all of their phony, hypocritical claims.)
Support THOSE things if you're so concerned about "innocent life."
Until the field is even REMOTELY leveled (with government interference in men's fertility, semen health, and some annual monetary grant to women just for the sake of being women), men have no ground for intrusion. Sorry!
As it is, when it comes to YOUR views about government guidelines and laws, if you don't have a womb, you're "either with us or against us." If you're with us, support the above. If you THINK you're with us but proclaim some rights YOU or the government have over OUR bodies, you can just STFU. (At the risk of sounding like H2S: You can JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!)
This is a WOMEN's issue until or unless the law finds some way to equalize the differences in our biology. And that ain't gonna happen.
It's an issue women have fought forEVER, across countless years and countless cultures. We've had many men with us, and for that matter, many women against us.
This is just a shout-out to my sisters AND brothers on DU who GET IT
