What's Congress done in the last month to address the health care crisis?
Edited on Thu May-18-06 09:37 PM by Telly Savalas
We've got 45 million Americans without health insurance and over half of all personal bankruptcies stem from the burden of medical expenses.

I know that the GOP is too obsessed with trying to crucify Mexicans and gays to actually deal with any of our problems, but I'm curious as to what the Democrats are doing to try to raise awareness about sound health care policy. I haven't seen any posts here about this lately. Are the Democrats MIA on this, or is just that the threads are sinking to make room for the "speak English or die" crowd?

1. They put a new exercise bike in the Congressional gym?
That would be a typical reaction for Congress, although with the Spend Thrift Republicans, they probably built two new gyms, one for Congress and one for the Senate.

3. The Democrats submitted a plan last week
during "Health Care Week." It was called, I think, the Durbin-Lincoln plan and was, largely, the Kerry Health Plan from 2004. (Give America the same health care coverage Congress has.)

Unfortunately, since the Democrats don't control the Congress, the Act did not get the time of day from the Rethug Congress.

On the 'it could be worse' side, The Democrats did stop the REthugs from enacting a really bad bill on AHPs for Small Businesses that would have allowed the Federal Government to do away with minimum coverage in the various states. (If your health plan mandates, say, Mammograms as a minimum coverage according to your state's law, this law would have allowed health plans to disregard that. See, in Sen. Enzi's state they don't need state Mammograms covered, cuz people give them to each other as Mother's Day presents. Seeriously, he said that on the floor of the Senate. I heard him.)

4. Well now you've gone and done it
You and your silly facts are going to screw up a perfectly good Dem bashing thread. Tsk tsk tsk.

Let's not forget the Dems also blocked the cloture vote on the uninsuring the insured bill - otherwise known as a filibuster.

6. This wasn't meant to be a Dem-bashing thread.
I was fishing for posts like the one to which you responded, and am comforted that I was able to get one.

We don't hear too much about liberal activities of the Democrats here ever since the Lou Dobbs fan club took over.

5. They have theirs and screw those who don't! Lets take away their
Federally funded health care insurance and see how they like that? If it's good enough for them, why not the rest of us?
