CNN just announced that Bell South is asking for a full retraction
Bell South wants a full retraction from USA Today on the phone records stuff. They didn't really say more than that about it.

Negreponte must be having that ol' presidential memorandum printed on a t-shirt now!

2. That's a good thing...
They have probably gotten thousands of angry calls.

It shows people are really starting to care about what this misadministration is doing.

3. You know what USA Today should do?
Edited on Thu May-18-06 04:28 PM by Marr
They should print a front page timeline of the events. Show how long the telcos waited to issue their denials, and Bush's order making their lying legal.

Do an article on Bush's executive order. You know- sort of a "we report, you decide" sort of thing.

6. That's exactly what they should do. Just because *negroponte says it's ok
for them to lie doesn't mean ANYBODY has to believe them.

And we'll let the courts settle whether or not it can be made legal for them to lie with impunity.

12. They should also talk about EFF's court document proving
the way NSA gets the data is to attach eavesdropping equipment to telcos phone equipment.

BellSouth may not have "given" the data to NSA, they just allowed NSA to come in and take it.

9. It took them that long to get in CYA mode.

It's not like the old days when they had employees who knew what they were doing. It takes longer now to get the temp and part time workers in gear.

Here's a qoute from the original USA Today story. ~snip~ The three telecommunications companies are working under contract with the NSA, which launched the program in 2001 shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the sources said. The program is aimed at identifying and tracking suspected terrorists, they said.

20. Will Bell South ask Bush for a retraction too?
Because he basically admitted it happened when he came out and defended it that morning.

22. Little thing called
the FCC. Ever heard of them Bell South? Ever wonder why a commissioner is calling for an investigation of you violating American privacy rights?

Last I heard that was a federal agency.
