11. as I read it
Wyoming, Utah, Idaho = the high approval winners

Vermont & New Jersey = the low approval winners

You KNOW something is going on when Missouri has the same percentage approval (29%) as Maryland (29%)--can this be a mistake?

Yes...WOW.

41. NC dynamics
Repub base in NC:

--big Military installations (can lose a lot of them to Dem, tend to be intelligent, down on this particular war)
--big Fundy elements (tend to be -let's say- followers, traditionalists, rather than stupid--Jesus told them to vote Repub and that's it for the rest of eternity)
--big Mexican/South American population (doesn't vote too much but presence could cause vote shifts as the immigration thing heats up)
--big Tobacco & farmers (might have some conversions there if economy worsens)
--Racists =unquantifiable (not cool anymore but a factor...can't underestimate in the state that spawned Jesse Helms (no hope for them, they like whiteness)
--big Tourism (bring on a few more category 4-5's hurricanes & send in FEMA)
--small Bidness -- very Repug, but opportunities there as they get squeezed
--big Bidness, Raleigh, Charlotte (dependent on economic factors. Don't hold your breath)
--big Medicine (not happy with state of heathcare, ready for changes)
--small workers --Joe Sixpack--the one group who OUGHT to have fled long ago

Have I left out any? So many different kinds of Repugs. Will some flee? Good Q. What do you think?

6. Thanks for the list. Good thing to know if you ever need to move.
Now I have a list of states to avoid... How utterly unsurprising that was. All the usual suspects support him. Utah, of course, because of so many religious types... And, I don't mean this to sound harsh, but did you notice that the states with the lowest levels of education (per statistics) are the ones that support him the most? Think there's any correlation?

22. Thanks. We are at 43%.
Of course, most of the African-American neighborhoods in NO are empty, and the rabid right-wingers of the north are still able to answer their phone, so it seems that explains it. I don't know anyone here who supports Bush, other than one neighbor.

I hope this splatters onto our state races because our legislators (repug majority for now) want to reinstate the death penalty here--it's on the ballot for fall. We need to clean house. Get rid of (ko)Tex Sensenbrenner and block Mark Green, a hard-core *bot.
