And they're having the time of their lives watching this. :)

1. Leopold keeps laying on more and more detail --
Lockdown of the floor on which the meeting was supposed to have taken place, etc., etc.

Very peculiar. If it turns out not to be true, Leopold is dead meat. Why would he throw away his voice this way on a fraud?

Unless they've verrrrrry effectively fooled him.

(This presumes we're talking about Rovegate, which, as I look at your subject line, is not entirely certain.)

3. How about both?
It seems both relevant and obvious these "smartest guys in the room" are attacking from both fronts: the numbers of experts are available and the necessary dedication to purpose and ambition overflowing.
My own suspicions have it that there is a kind of battle raging all up and down the line. The trapped rat desperation as well as flaming mechanical ambition on the right (coupled with a penchant for flouting the law,) against the fear of loss desperation and cornered anger on the left.

This monumental battle has to be concluded before the rise of the next generation, given the propensity of each succeeding generation to accept the status quo or "business as usual" as the normal way for humans to deal with each other.

I think the "privilege class" mentality of the current powers that be, are proving to be anathema to both sides of these skirmishes and strong, decisive leaders, from the more outlying portions of progressive persuasion are required, right now, rather than the conventional notion of centrist compromisers. The stakes are too great and the consequences too damning for the normal non-abrasive solutions to work very well.

5. Some "sources" probably are freepers, for their own purposes,
while others are likely sincere and trying to be helpfully informative.
