Who is Congressman Leonard Boswell?
and why does Russ Feingold send an email saying that the National Republicans have targeted Leonard as their #1 priority this year? This strikes me as especially odd, since an hour before I received the email from John Conyers saying that Karl Rove has identified HIM as the "number one target of the Republican attack machine".

Who is really number one on the Republican hit list?

Conyers, I can believe, but Congressman Boswell I have never heard of.

1. He's a rep. from Iowa. Here's his voting record:

2. They've targeted Boswell before
If they get him out, they own Iowa. Howard Dean asked me to give him money in 2004, and I always do what Howard Dean says.

4. I contributed to him last election
(when Dean asked me to) but since then I've seen some of his horrible votes...he is at best Democratic lite. But then he has to keep his conservative Iowan constituents happy. He won't get any more of my money...but he emails me weekly anyway.

5. He looks pretty moderate to me
But he's in IOWA, and that's where the caucuses are... I hate to be cynical about Feingold, but if he only acted on principle and not self-interest he would be spending his political capital on Conyers.

6. He is one of the few Democrats who could get elected in that district
And this is the scary part he is about as progressive a candidate as you will find as a Democrat there.

Lets not fool ourselves, this is not Massachusetts or New York city we are talking about rural Iowa and the Republicans would love to take him out.

By the way, he has been very sick lately and was thinking of dropping out but was asked not to in hopes of taking back the house.

You can bet your last dollar that his first vote will be for a Democratic Speaker of the House.
